Mike Fitzgerald (born 1951) is a criminologist, former higher education manager and consultant. He was Vice-Chancellor of Thames Valley University in the 1990s. Background Fitzgerald grew up on Merseyside. He attended Catholic grammar school in Crosby, Merseyside and gained entry to the University of Cambridge to read Social Sciences, graduating in the early 1970s. In 1977 he was awarded a PhD by the University of Leicester for ''Prisoners in Revolt'' a study which looked at the attempt by the organisation Preservation of the Rights of Prisoners to organise prisoners into a union. Scholarly work Fitzgerald began an academic career in the 1970s at Leicester University sociology department as a tutorial assistant for two years. In 1975, he went to the Open University, as a lecturer in Social Policy. Michael Roy Fitzgerald (born July 13, 1960) is an American former professional baseball player. He played as a catcher in Major League Baseball from through for the New York Mets, Montreal Expos and California Angels. Major League career Fitzgerald was selected by New York Mets in the 6th round of the 1978 Major League Baseball Draft. He made his major league debut with the New York Mets on September 13, 1983. Fitzgerald hit a home run in his first major league at bat, becoming the 57th player in major league history to accomplish the feat. In 1984, he led National League catchers in range factor and fielding percentage, becoming only the fourth catcher in major league history to win a fielding title in his rookie year. Michael Patrick Fitzgerald (born March 28, 1964) is an American former professional baseball first baseman. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the St. Louis Cardinals. Mike Fitzgerald is a game designer who has worked primarily on collectible card games. Career Mike Fitzgerald started designing games shortly after ''Magic: The Gathering'' came out in 1993. His first design was the trading card game ''Wyvern (card game), Wyvern'', which was published by U.S. Games. This resulted in a contract with Wizards of the Coast to do more designs, including the ''Nitro'' (World Championship Wrestling, WCW wrestling) and ''X-Men Trading Card Game, X-Men'' trading card games. He has worked for Pokémon USA, helping to put together the pre-constructed decks that are sold with every ''Pokémon'' expansion. Fitzgerald is also the designer of the Mystery Rummy series.
