His early career included directing four serials of the BBC's science fiction series ''Doctor Who'' (1966–1971). He later directed ITV's police drama series ''The Bill'' and was promoted to become its producer (1988–1989), and as executive producer of the BBC soap opera ''EastEnders'' (1989–1991) he was responsible for the introduction of two of its most popular and long-running characters, Phil and Grant Mitchell. Michael Kevin Ferguson (9 March 1943 – 27 August 2019) was an English footballer who played as a midfielder in the Football League for Accrington Stanley, Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa, Queens Park Rangers, Cambridge United, Rochdale and Halifax Town, and in the North American Soccer League for the Los Angeles Aztecs. Career Ferguson was born in Burnley, Lancashire. He started with Plymouth Argyle, then as a member of the Accrington Stanley team that dropped out of the league in 1962. Sir Michael Anthony John Ferguson CBE, FRS, FRSE (born February 1957) is a British biochemist and Regius Professor of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee. His research team are based at the School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee.
