Mike Clark (indie Rock Musician)
Mike Clark is an American musician and restaurateur based in Portland, Oregon. He currently plays keyboards and guitar for Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks. Musical career Clark has performed with a number of bands in the Portland area. During the late 1990s and early 2000s (decade) he played drums with the Surf Maggots, guitar with the Underpants Machine and the No-No's, and keyboards with the Maroons. Since 2001, he has recorded and toured extensively with Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks. He is currently the touring bass player for The Corin Tucker Band and can be seen in their video for "Riley." Sassiest Boy in America Clark was featured in the October 1991 issue of '' Sassy'' magazine as the "Sassiest Boy in America," a title previously held by Ian Svenonius. Stephen Malkmus And The Jicks
Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks is an American rock band consisting of Stephen Malkmus, Mike Clark, Joanna Bolme, and Jake Morris. Malkmus was the main singer and songwriter behind the influential 1990s indie rock band Pavement. History The Jicks formed in 2000, almost immediately after Pavement's 1999 "hiatus" began. The group's first record - which had a working title of ''Swedish Reggae'' - was simply called ''Stephen Malkmus''. It was released by Matador Records on February 13, 2001. The group made their official live debut at New York's Bowery Ballroom only a few weeks before their first record was released. Around this time, Pavement's auxiliary percussionist Bob Nastanovich began acting as The Jicks' tour manager, and Mike Clark joined on keyboards. ''Pig Lib'' is the second studio album by Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, released on March 18, 2003 by Matador Records. It peaked at #97 in the U.S. and #63 in the UK. The first pressing of the record came with a bonus disc containing five additional new songs. As of June 2004, the album has sold 49,000 copies in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan. ''Wig Out at Jagbags'' is the sixth studio album by American rock band Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks. It was released on January 7, 2014, by Matador Records. Title The album's name is a reference to Wig Out at Denko's, the second long-player by Dag Nasty, and according to press interview on BBC Radio 1 with Lauren Laverne references a night out at London venue DreamBags JaguarShoes which is referred to locally by its patrons as ‘JagBags’. Matador Records is an independent record label, with a roster of mainly indie rock, but also punk rock, experimental rock, alternative rock, and electronic acts. History Matador was created in 1989 by Chris Lombardi in his New York City apartment. Lombardi had brought the Austrian duo H.P. Candy Ass Records was an independent record label in Portland, Oregon that was run by Jody Bleyle, a member of the bands Team Dresch and Hazel and of the queercore bands Family Outing and Infinite Xs. The label is best known for the 1995 release of the double LP compilation '' Free to Fight''. Featuring all-women bands and musicians such as The Third Sex, Rebecca Gates of The Spinanes, Fifth Column, Containe, Heavens to Betsy, Excuse 17, Lois, Cheesecake and Team Dresch, all contributing songs dealing with women's safety, defense against harassment and rape and pertinent topics surrounding these issues.
