Mike Barlow
Michael Roswell Barlow (born April 30, 1948) is a retired professional baseball player who played seven seasons for the St. Louis Cardinals, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Los Angeles Angels, and Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball. Early life Barlow was born in the small town of Stamford in Upstate New York, where he lived on a large farm with two sisters. Career After playing basketball at Milford High School in Oneonta, New York, Barlow played basketball at Syracuse Orange men's basketball, Syracuse University, before switching to baseball after his sophomore year. In 1969, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League. After Syracuse discontinued its baseball program after the 1972 season, Barlow signed with the Oakland Athletics organization. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. The Montreal Expos (french: link=no, Les Expos de Montréal) were a Canadian professional baseball team based in Montreal, Quebec. The Expos were the first Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise located outside the United States. They played in the National League (NL) East division from 1969 until 2004. Following the 2004 season, the franchise relocated to Washington, D.C., and became the Washington Nationals. Immediately after the minor league Triple-A Montreal Royals folded in 1960, political leaders in Montreal sought an MLB franchise, and when the National League evaluated expansion candidates for the 1969 season, it awarded a team to Montreal.
