Greg King (lawyer)
Gregory James King (17 September 1969 – 3 November 2012) was a New Zealand criminal defence lawyer and broadcaster. He has been described as "one of this country's finest legal brains". Early life and education Of Ngāti Tūwharetoa descent, King was born in Whanganui and grew up in Tūrangi, where his father was a prison officer. He was head prefect at Tongariro High School in 1987. The following year, he represented New Zealand as one of 32 pavilion hosts in the World Expo in Brisbane, Australia. King studied law at the University of Otago, graduating (LLB) in 1992. He was admitted to the bar on 14 May 1993 at Dunedin High Court. Ben Smart and Olivia Hope, two young New Zealanders, disappeared in the early hours of the morning on New Year's Day, 1January 1998. The two friends had been celebrating on New Year's Eve at Furneaux Lodge in the Marlborough Sounds with other partygoers. The pair accepted an offer from a stranger to stay aboard his yacht in the early hours of the morning, and it was the last time they were seen alive. In October 2007, 22-year-old Janet Moses died and a 14-year-old female relative was injured during a mākutu lifting (or exorcism) in the Wellington, New Zealand suburb of Wainuiomata. The New Zealand Press Association (NZPA) was a news agency that existed from 1879 to 2011 and provided national and international news to the media of New Zealand. The largest news agency in the country, it was founded as the United Press Association in 1879, and became the New Zealand Press Association in 1942.
