Miguel Gutiérrez (writer)
Miguel Francisco Gutiérrez Correa (27 July 1940 – 14 July 2016) was a Peruvian writer. His works on the theme of disaffected youth include ''El viejo saurio se retira'' (The Ancient Lizard Retires; 1969) and ''La violencia del tiempo'' (The Violence of Time; 1991). Peruvians
Peruvians ( es, peruanos) are the citizens of Peru. There were Andean and coastal ancient civilizations like Caral, which inhabited what is now Peruvian territory for several millennia before the Spanish conquest in the 16th century; Peruvian population decreased from an estimated 5–9 million in the 1520s to around 600,000 in 1620 mainly because of infectious diseases carried by the Spanish. Spaniards and Africans arrived in large numbers in 1532 under colonial rule, mixing widely with each other and with Native Peruvians. During the Republic, there has been a gradual immigration of European people (especially from Spain and Italy, and in a less extent from Germany, France, Croatia, and the British Isles). Chinese and Japanese arrived in large numbers at the end of the 19th century. With 31.2 million inhabitants according to the 2017 Census, Peru is the fifth most populous country in South America. Nicholas Birns
Nicholas Birns is a scholar of literature, including fantasy and Australian literature. As a Tolkien scholar he has written on a variety of topics including The Scouring of the Shire and Tolkien's biblical sources. His analysis of the writings of Anthony Powell and Roberto Bolaño has been admired by scholars. Biography Nicholas Birns took his BA at Columbia University in 1988. He took his MA at New York University in 1990, and he completed his PhD in 1992, also at New York University. Birns was a visiting professor at Western Connecticut State University from 1992 to 1993. He was a professor at the New School from 1995 to 2014. He joined Eugene Lang College in 2005, teaching many different courses in literature. He taught at the College of New Rochelle from 2012. He is also an adjunct instructor at the New York University School of Professional Studies. He is the editor of ''Antipodes: A Global Journal of Australian/NZ Literature''.
