Miente (film)
''Miente'' is a 2009 Puerto Rican drama film directed by Rafi Mercado, and based on the novel "Different", written by Javier Ávila. The film was selected as the Puerto Rican entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, Best Foreign Language Film at the 83rd Academy Awards but it did not make the final shortlist. The film won the inaugural Havana Star Prize for Best Director in 2010 at the 11th Havana Film Festival New York. Cast * Oscar H. Efraín López Neris
Efraín López Neris (born April 1, 1937) is a Sephardi Puerto Rican actor, producer and cinematographer that has had a long trajectory in Puerto Rico's national artistic scene. Born in Caguas in April 1, 1937, he had his start in Puerto Rican television in the 1960s by joining the cast of various comedy shows. Among his memorable television characters, "Don Florito" parodied great opera singers and operatic arias, a concept that predated that of Adam Sandler's Opera Man by at least fifteen years. His ''"Candido"'' had López portray an extremely naive married man who placed too much confidence in his wife and their mutual house painter friend ("mi amigo, el pintor"), whose profession led quite well to dozens of double entendres about his wife's proclivities, acknowledged by everyone but himself. Puerto Rico, an unincorporated territory of the United States, is among the one hundred countries that have submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. The award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Puerto Rican nominee was selected by the Corporación de Cine de Puerto Rico. However, the territory is no longer allowed to submit films due to the Academy altering its rules to disqualify films from American protectorates. This is a list of submissions to the 83rd Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. The deadline for all countries to send in their submissions was 1 October 2010. The submitted motion pictures must be first released theatrically in their respective countries between 1 October 2009, and 30 September 2010. Julio Ramos (actor)
Julio A. Ramos (4 February 1935 in Buenos Aires – 19 November 2006 in Buenos Aires) was an Argentine journalist and businessman. On 9 December 1976 he founded '' Ámbito Financiero'', a newspaper specializing in finance and economy that was later expanded to cater to a wider audience. Ramos received a degree in Economics from the University of Buenos Aires and worked as a journalist for ''Noticias Gráficas'', '' La Nación'' and '' La Opinión'', among other media. He was a firm believer in free market liberalism. In 1985, Ramos ran unsuccessfully for the Deputy Chamber of the Buenos Aires Province in a center-right ticket.
