Midyett, also Breckenridge Springs and Grover, is an unincorporated community in Panola County, Texas, United States. History Midyett is situated on the junction of Farm to Market Road 31 and 123. It was settled in 1850 by planters from DeBerry, Texas DeBerry (or De Berry) is an unincorporated community in Panola County, Texas, United States. The community has an estimated population of 3,305. The post office operated from 1887 to 1920; its first postmaster was Spencer Midyett, who named the town after himself. Panola County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 22,491. The county seat is Carthage. Located in East Texas and originally developed for cotton plantations, the county's name is derived from a Choctaw word for cotton. Until 2013, Panola County was one of about 30 entirely dry counties in Texas: the sale of alcohol was restricted or prohibited. History Jonathon Anderson, a migrant from the United States and founder of Panola County, donated about 500 acres of land in the 1800s to get the county started. Panola County was formed in 1846 from sections of Harrison and Shelby counties. Developed for cotton plantations, it was named after a Choctaw/Chickasaw word for cotton. DeBerry, Texas
DeBerry (or De Berry) is an unincorporated community in Panola County, Texas, United States. The community has an estimated population of 3,305. Geography DeBerry is located at (32.3032138, -94.1665797). It is situated at the junction of U.S. Highway 79 and Farm Roads 31 and 1794 in northeastern Panola County, fourteen miles northeast of Carthage. History Known as Evergreen prior to the Civil War, the community's name was changed to DeBerry, for local citizen and legislator Alfred Wesley De Berry. A post office was established in 1874 and by 1885, 150 people lived in the community. The population doubled to 300 in the early 1890s before declining in the 1910s. The discovery of oil in the area during the 1920s led to another population boom. By 1929, approximately 250 residents lived in DeBerry. Seven years later. That figure had dipped to 233.
