Midwestern Junior B Hockey League
The Mid-Western Junior Hockey League (MWJHL) was a junior ice hockey league in Ontario, Canada, sanctioned by the Ontario Hockey Association from 1973 until 2007. Sutherland Cup
The Sutherland Cup is the ice hockey Ontario Junior "B" Provincial Championship trophy. The trophy was first awarded in 1934, and named in honour of former OHA and CAHA president, James T. Sutherland. The Sutherland Cup is now the championship trophy of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. Until 2007, the Cup served as an interleague provincial championship. From 1976 until 1978, as many as eight leagues competed for the Sutherland Cup in a massive playdown structure that took months to complete. There is no National Championship for Junior B hockey in Canada, similar championships are held in Western Canada (Keystone Cup), Quebec (Coupe Dodge), Eastern Ontario ( Barkley Cup), and Atlantic Canada ( Don Johnson Memorial Cup)—leaving five teams at the end of each year with a shared claim to being the best Junior B team in Canada. New Hamburg Firebirds
The New Hamburg Firebirds are a Junior ice hockey team based in New Hamburg, Ontario, Canada. They are members of the Provincial Junior Hockey League of the Ontario Hockey Association. History The Hahns started out in the Interbrew Junior "C" Hockey League, and later joined the Central Junior C Hockey League. They made the jump up to the Midwestern Junior B Hockey League in 1977 and stayed there until 1982Mid-Western Ontario OHA Jr. B Hockey League 25th Anniversary Program by J. Clark Hayman (2002) when they returned to Junior "C" in the NJCHL. While in the Central Jr. C league (now known as the Western Jr. C league), the Hahns won two Clarence Schmalz Cups as All-Ontario champions - 1963 and 1967. After some uncertainty in the Summer of 2013, the Firebirds ended up in the new Midwestern Junior C Hockey League. Guelph Platers
The Guelph Platers were a junior ice hockey team based in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. The team played in the Ontario Hockey League, Ontario Junior Hockey League, and Southern Ontario Junior A Hockey League. They were originally known as the CMC's until 1972, the Biltmore Mad Hatters until 1975, and then took on the name Platers. The Platers were promoted to the Ontario Hockey League in 1982 and moved to Owen Sound in 1989. The franchise played in the Guelph Memorial Gardens. History Early years The CMC's were founded as members of the Central Junior B Hockey League, now the Ontario Junior Hockey League, in 1968. In 1970, the CMC's merged with and took the place of the Guelph Beef Kings of the Western Junior "A" Hockey League (formerly the Western Division of the Big 10).
