Midwest Junior Hockey League
The Midwest Junior Hockey League (MWJHL) was an American junior ice hockey league. The MWJHL were members of the United Hockey Union and sanctioned by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). On March 10, 2015, the league announced it would be joining the United States Premier Hockey League as part of a new Midwest Division beginning in the 2015–16 season. History Founding The MWJHL began in 2012 with a league office in Sylvania, Ohio consisting of six full-time employees to support members vision and objectives. The first league meetings were in July 2012 in Deerfield, Illinois, to establish the first member teams, conference alignment of the teams, and playoff format. Junior Ice Hockey
Junior hockey is a level of competitive ice hockey generally for players between 16 and 21 years of age. Junior hockey leagues in the United States and Canada are considered amateur (with some exceptions) and operate within regions of each country. In Canada, the highest level is major junior, and is governed by the Canadian Hockey League, which itself has three constituent leagues: the Ontario Hockey League, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, and the Western Hockey League. The second tier is Junior A, governed nationally by the Canadian Junior Hockey League and is composed of several regional leagues. Minnesota Junior Hockey League
The Minnesota Junior Hockey League (MnJHL) was a USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier III junior ice hockey league operated out of Minneapolis-Saint Paul. History Established in 1974, the MnJHL developed players 20 years old and younger for over 40 years. Many MnJHL players, coaches and officials alumni have moved on to college hockey and professional hockey leagues. Since the inaugural season, the MnJHL had expanded up to 17 teams in the 2014–15 season with teams in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri and Ohio. The league has a history of USA Hockey national championship teams. League members won national championships six times in the 1990s. Erie Blizzard
The Erie Blizzard were a proposed independent junior ice hockey team in both the Continental Junior Hockey League (CJHL) and Midwest Junior Hockey League (MWJHL). The team was announced to play out of Ice Center of Erie in Erie, Pennsylvania, but never played a game. History The franchise was formed in 2010 as a charter member of the Continental Junior Hockey League for the 2010–11 season. The Blizzard's first head coach was announced as Curtis Prue. Prue had coached at Fairview High School where he won a league championship in 2008. He had also coached at Gannon University. However, prior to the 2010–11 season, the Blizzard had been unable to sign enough players to field a team and merged with the Niagara Fury for the season. Big Boy Arena (formerly Fraser Hockeyland and Great Lakes Sports City) in Fraser, Michigan, is a ice center and entertainment venue offering five rinks for hockey, figure skating, inline skating, camps, clinics, private lessons, leagues, and special events. Its largest ice rink is a stadium arena with a 3,400-seat capacity. The ice center was the home of the Motor City Mechanics of the former United Hockey League. Brownstown Charter Township is a charter township in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 30,627 at the 2010 census. Brownstown was established in 1827, a decade prior to Michigan's Admission to the Union.
