Middlesbrough Rugby Union Football Team
Middlesbrough Rugby Union Football Club is an English rugby union team. One of two clubs of the area of Middlesbrough, the club runs five senior sides and ten junior teams. The initial club was formed in 1872, but it was not until 1892 when the current name was introduced. The club plays at Acklam Park, having moved there in 1930, and currently have a ground-share with Middlesbrough Cricket Club. History The first recorded club match took place on 16 November 1872 against Northumberland, playing at Newcastle. The final results score was Northumberland 28–0 Middlesbrough. The earliest Derby game known was Middlesbrough 10–0 Darlington, which took place at Breckon Hill road on Grove Hill on 15 February 1873. Yorkshire Rugby Football Union
The Yorkshire Rugby Football Union is the governing body responsible for rugby union in the historic county of Yorkshire, England. It is one of the constituent bodies of the national Rugby Football Union having formed in 1869, the union was formerly called Yorkshire County Club. The county has won the county championship on 15 occasions, and finished as runners-up on a further eight occasions. The Yorkshire RFU also organises the Yorkshire Cup, which was inaugurated in 1878. Laurie Gloag (30 October 1925 – 28 February 1984) was a Scotland international rugby union player. Rugby Union career Amateur career Laurie Gloag, along with his brother Ian, went to Oundle School. He played for Middlesbrough. He played rugby union for Cambridge University, when he went to university at Trinity College. He joined Kelso in 1951. He was nominated for the vice-captaincy in early 1952 but declined as he expected to leave Kelso in October that year. Provincial career He started for the Scotland Possibles side in January 1949, but after a good performance in the first half was promoted to the Scotland Probables side in the second half. The Yorkshire Cup is an England, English Rugby Football Union competition founded in 1878. It is organised by the Yorkshire Rugby Football Union and is open to all eligible clubs in the Yorkshire area. It was initially known as the Yorkshire Challenge Cup. The Yorkshire Senior Cup is currently the premier county cup competition for club sides based in Yorkshire that play in tier 4 (National League 2 North), tier 5 (National League 3 North) and tier 6 (North 1 East) of the English rugby union league system. John Philip Horrocks-Taylor (27 October 1934 – 11 February 2021) was a rugby union fly half who played for Leicester Tigers between 1958 and 1963; he represented England 9 times between 1958 and 1964 and was selected for the 1959 British Lions tour to Australia and New Zealand where he played in the third test. He was a Cambridge University blue in Rugby for 1956 and 1957. North Premier was a level five league in the English rugby union system, with the fourteen teams drawn from across Northern England. The other leagues at this level were London & South East Premier, Midlands Premier and South West Premier. The RFU reorganised the level five leagues for season 2022–23, with an increase from four to six and reducing the teams in each from fourteen to twelve. The teams in this league now play in either Regional 1 North East or Regional 1 North West.
