Middle Pillar Presents
Middle Pillar Presents is a New York-based record label that specializes in ambient, gothic, and experimental music. The label began as distributor for other labels and artists entitled Middle Pillar Distribution. Kevin Dunn and James Babbo established Middle Pillar Presents to showcase artists unable to get signed elsewhere. The British independent label 4AD served as an inspiration to the founding of Middle Pillar Presents. Middle Pillar Presents was established with the goal of releasing only "dark" music. In an effort to maintain musical continuity the sub-label Hell's Hundred Records was established to sign bands of other styles, such as "punk, gothic horror rock, ndpsychobilly." Ambient music is a genre of music that emphasizes tone and atmosphere over traditional musical structure or rhythm. Dark wave (also typeset as darkwave) is a music genre that emerged from the new wave and post-punk movement of the late 1970s. Dark wave compositions are largely based on minor key tonality and introspective lyrics and have been perceived as being dark, romantic and bleak, with an undertone of sorrow. Experimental music is a general label for any music or music genre that pushes existing boundaries and genre definitions. Gothic rock (also called goth rock or simply goth) is a style of rock music that emerged from post-punk in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s. The first post-punk bands which shifted toward dark music with gothic overtones include Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, Bauhaus, and the Cure. The genre itself was defined as a separate movement from post-punk. The Machine In The Garden (band)
The Machine in the Garden is a music duo featuring Roger Fracé and Summer Bowman. They have released seven full-length albums and one EP. Their music is a blend of different genres, such as synthpop, electronica, goth opera and goth rock. History The band's first release was the 1994 release ''Veils and Shadows EP''. Initially a solo endeavor by Roger Fracé, the debut EP blended the dark elements of gothic rock with new wave and industrial tinges. However, folded within the songs were melodies of a more classical nature. The band's sound evolved with the addition of musician Summer Bowman. Her voice lent an ethereal quality to the music on the band's first full-length recording in 1997, ''Underworld''. Mirabilis (band)
Mirabilis is an American neoclassical dark wave musical project formed in 2001 by Dru Allen of This Ascension and Summer Bowman of the Machine in the Garden. Mirabilis uses vocals as the primary instrumentation, crafting original musical compositions and interpreting traditional classical vocal pieces from a number of different periods. The music is melodic and borrows from classical, ethereal, darkwave, and gothic genres. The name Mirabilis is Latin for something that is wonderful, miraculous, or unusual. In December 2003, the band's first release, a limited edition 7-inch self-titled EP was released on Fossil Dungeon. Myke Hideous
Myke Hideous (born October 15, 1966) is an American gothic rock singer and songwriter from New Jersey. He is the founder and frontman of the gothic rock band The Empire Hideous, which was active throughout the 1990s and into the early 2000s. He also performed with The Bronx Casket Co., Spy Society 99, and the Misfits as a fill-in vocalist on their South American and European tours that took place from May to July in 1998. Mister Monster were an American, New Jersey-based horror punk band, started in 1998 by singer Jason "J-Sin" Trioxin (Jason Heveran), notable for their use of Doo Wop harmonies within Horror Punk, a style the band called ''Boo Wop''.
