Middle Gorge Railway Station
Middle Gorge railway station is located on the Mernda line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the north-eastern Melbourne suburb of South Morang, and it opened on 26 August 2018. It is the only station between South Morang and Mernda that is not elevated. It is also the only station between Thomastown and Mernda that does not have an island platform. History South Morang railway station (former) The original South Morang was a former steam-era railway station on the Whittlesea line, which operated until the closure of the line beyond Lalor on 28 November 1959, following the electrification of the line to Lalor. Mernda Railway Station
Mernda railway station is the terminus of the suburban electrified Mernda line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the north-eastern Melbourne suburb of Mernda, and it opened on 26 August 2018. History The original Mernda station opened on 23 December 1889, when the railway line from Epping was extended to Whittlesea. It was originally named South Yan Yean, and was renamed Mernda on 1 December 1913. Mernda operated until the closure of the line beyond Lalor on 29 November 1959, following the electrification of the line as far as Lalor. Epping was re-opened on 29 November 1964, with the electrification of that section of the line. Plenty Gorge Park
Plenty Gorge Park is a metropolitan regional park in the north-eastern Melbourne suburb of Bundoora. The park extends 11km along the Plenty River and encompasses sites including the Hawkstowe and Yarrambat picnic areas, Middle Gorge, Nioka Bush Camp and the Yellow Gum Recreation Area. However, these sites generally operate independently rather than as components of the broader parklands. History The park was initially occupied by the Wurundjeri people until the arrival of the Europeans in Australia in the 1830s. By 1837, pastoral squatters claimed large areas of land for their sheep and cattle. In 1841 the area was considered a “settled district” within Port Phillip, and all suitable land for agriculture west of the Plenty River was sold off by the government for private ownership by the mid-1840s. History Hawkstowe station opened on 26 August 2018, when the line was extended from South Morang to Mernda, as part of the Mernda Rail project. The station was not originally planned as part of the project. However, as a result of pressure from the community, the station was included in the plan for the extension. Epping is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Whittlesea local government area. Epping recorded a population of 33,489 at the 2021 census. Mill Park is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 18 km north-east of Melbourne's central business district, located within the City of Whittlesea local government area. Mill Park recorded a population of 28,712 at the 2021 census.
