Mid District Cup
The Mid District Cup, presently called the Worthington Mid District Cup for sponsorship reasons, is an annual rugby union competition that is contested between clubs in South Wales. The competition is a knock-out format and teams from the Welsh Premier Division are not eligible to participate. Rugby union, commonly known simply as rugby, is a close-contact team sport that originated at Rugby School in the first half of the 19th century. Gilfach Goch Rugby Football Club is a rugby union team from the village of Gilfach Goch, South Wales. Gilfach Goch RFC was established in 1889, has been a member of the Welsh Rugby Union since 1956 and is a feeder club for the Cardiff Blues. The clubhouse, in High Street Gilfach Goch, has been the club's base for the past 40 years. Gilfach Goch RFC is a community club, and has over 170 players currently involved in teams run by the club. These roots are continually developing, especially with the development of the Junior section of the club. Bargoed Rugby Football Club is a rugby union team from the town of Bargoed in South Wales. They are members of the Welsh Rugby Union and are a feeder club for Newport Gwent Dragons. Beddau Rugby Football Club is a rugby union team from the village of Beddau, South Wales. The present club was formed in 1951–52, but it can trace its roots to around 1900. Beddau RFC is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union and is a feeder club for Cardiff Blues. History Beddau had a village rugby team from around 1900 until the Second World War. During the war all the club's records were destroyed apart from a few remaining photographs of Beddau RFC teams from the late 1930s. Sardis Road is a rugby union stadium situated in Pontypridd, Wales. It is home to the Principality Premiership team, Pontypridd RFC and previously the Celtic Warriors, the now defunct regional rugby union team. It is commonly known as the "House of Pain". History Pontypridd RFC originally played their games at Taff Vale Park in Treforest, later they moved to the People's Park before finally moving to the Sardis Road ground. Treorchy Rugby Football Club is a rugby union team from the village of Treorchy, in the Rhondda Valley, Wales. They formed in 1886 and by 1891 were a strong voice in the Welsh Football Union and were playing in the Rhondda Division. Penygraig
Penygraig is a village and community in the Rhondda Valley in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. As a community Penygraig contains the neighbouring districts of Dinas, Edmondstown, Penrhiwfer and Williamstown. Penygraig is within the historic county boundaries of Glamorgan. The name Penygraig is Welsh for 'head of the rock'. Penygraig Rugby Football Club is a Welsh rugby union team based in Penygraig, Wales. Penygraig RFC formed in 1877, one of the earlier rugby clubs to emerge, and by the 1890s were a strong voice in the Welsh Rugby Union, one of four clubs from the Rhondda Valley that held WRU representation. Early history In the 1887/1888 season, Penygraig played 19 matches, winning 12, drawing 1, and losing 6. Some notable wins was against Bridgend RFC and Penarth RFC.
