Mid-City Transitway
The Mid-City Transitway is a concept for the use of the right-of-way formerly proposed for the Crosstown Expressway in Chicago, Illinois. The uses being studied include a bus-only rapid-transit road (similar to a two-lane road running from McCormick Place north to the Loop), a truck-only bypass around the city center, or a rail rapid transit system (the favored and most feasible of the three primary concepts). Feasibility studies began in late 2002 and were commissioned by Richard M. Daley, then mayor of Chicago. Current studies into the Mid-City Transitway utilize a dormant Beltway Railroad railway embankment just east of Cicero Avenue (Illinois Route 50) and other abandoned rail rights-of-way. The feasibility studies will help determine whether a two or four-lane highway can be built atop the embankment. Crosstown Expressway (Chicago)
The Crosstown Expressway, suggested as Interstate 494 (I-494), was a proposed highway route in Chicago, Illinois. It was originally planned through the 1960s and 1970s. Route description The highway was to begin from a connection with the Kennedy Expressway and Edens Expressway (I-90 and I-94) near Montrose Avenue on the city's Northwest Side. It was to follow an alignment parallel and adjacent to the Belt Railway of Chicago, approximately one-half mile (0.8 km) east of Cicero Avenue, and extend southerly over railroad right-of-way through the West Side of Chicago and across the Sanitary and Ship Canal, to a connection with the Stevenson Expressway (I-55). Green Line (Chicago Transit Authority)
The Green Line is a rapid transit line on the Chicago Transit Authority's "L" system. It is a completely elevated route in the "L" system; all other routes may have various combinations of elevated, subway, street level (at grade), or freeway median sections. 87th is an 'L' station on the Chicago Transit Authority's Red Line. The station is located in the median of the Dan Ryan Expressway and serves the Chatham neighborhood. Midway (CTA Station)
Midway is an 'L' station on the CTA's Orange Line. It is the southwestern terminus of the Orange Line and serves Midway International Airport in Chicago, the city's second-largest airport. The turnstiles at the station's entrance are somewhat wider than most to accommodate airport passengers and their luggage. The station, along with the rest of the Orange Line, opened on October 31, 1993 after a long wait by Chicago's southwest side for 'L' access. The Pink Line is an rapid transit line in Chicago, run by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) as part of the Chicago "L" system. It is the CTA's newest rail line and began operation for a 180-day trial period on June 25, 2006, running between 54th/Cermak station in Cicero, Illinois and the Loop in downtown Chicago. The route, as the line is about to enter downtown Chicago, shares tracks with Green Line trains on Lake Street. Illinois Route 50 (IL 50) is a north–south state road in northeastern Illinois. It runs from the junction with U.S. Route 45 (US 45) and U.S. Route 52 (US 52) in West Kankakee north to US 41 in Skokie. In Chicago and the suburbs it's known as Cicero Avenue.
