Mickey Quinn
Mickey Quinn is a former Gaelic footballer from County Leitrim, Ireland. Along with Seamus Quinn he is the only other Leitrim man to win an All Star award, he is also one of the finest Gaelic footballers Leitrim ever produced, Quinn won an All Star at Midfield in 1990 and at the time was only the second player to have never played in Croke Park to win one. In 1994 he was part of the county's memorable Connacht Senior Football Championship victory. He also won an All Ireland B Titles in 1990. He won Leitrim Senior Football Championship titles in 1989, 1992, 1993, 1994 with Aughawillan. In 2010 he managed Aughawillan to the Leitrim Intermediate Football Championship. Aughawillan GAA
Aughawillan GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association Gaelic football club in Lower Drumreilly parish, County Leitrim, Ireland. Grounds Aughawillan is located near the County Cavan border, northeast of Ballinamore. History Aughawillan claim their origins from the Rory O'Donnells club which played in 1890. A team from the locality played under the names Kiltyhugh and Lower Drumreilly, winning the 1923 Leitrim Senior Football Championship. A ladies' Gaelic football club was founded in the 1970s and has won nineteen county championships. The current grounds opened in 1982. Aughawillan have won 12 senior football county titles and have reached the final of the Connacht Senior Club Football Championship on two occasions, in 1992 and 1994. Leitrim County Football Team
The Leitrim county football team ( ) represents Leitrim in men's Gaelic football and is governed by Leitrim GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the three major annual inter-county competitions; the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Connacht Senior Football Championship, and the National Football League. The team last won the Connacht Senior Championship in 1994 but has never won the All-Ireland Senior Championship or the National League. County Leitrim ( ; gle, Contae Liatroma) is a county in Ireland. It is in the province of Connacht and is part of the Northern and Western Region. It is named after the village of Leitrim. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). Seamus Quinn
Seamus Quinn is a former Gaelic footballer from Gortletteragh, County Leitrim. Along with Mickey Quinn he is Leitrim's only All Star winner. Quinn won an All Star at full-back in 1994. This was in Leitrim's Connacht Senior Football Championship winning season; Quinn would go on to become the last remaining member of that team following the departure of Fergal Reynolds. In 2000, Brian McEniff selected him to represent Ireland against Australia, becoming the first Leitrim player to receive international recognition. After retirement from playing he managed the county's junior team to a Connacht Junior Football Championship title in 2017. Croke Park ( ga, Páirc an Chrócaigh, ) is a Gaelic games stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Named after Archbishop Thomas Croke, it is referred to as Croker by GAA fans and locals. Connacht Senior Football Championship
The Connacht Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition for the senior county teams of Connacht GAA. All of the counties of Connacht participate in the championship, as well as counties London and New York. The winning team receives the Nestor Cup. The Connacht Senior Football Championship is run on a knock-out basis in which once a team loses they are eliminated from the competition. A series of games are played during the summer months and the final is played in June or July. The winner progresses directly to the All-Ireland Super 8s, while losing teams progress to the All-Ireland Qualifiers (before 2001 the All-Ireland was a straight knock-out format meaning all losing teams were eliminated after a single defeat). The Leitrim Senior Football Championship is an annual football competition contested by top-tier Leitrim GAA clubs.
