Mickey Daniels
Richard Daniels Jr. (October 11, 1914 – August 20, 1970) known professionally as Mickey Daniels, was an American actor. Signed by Hal Roach in 1921, he was, along with Joe Cobb, Jackie Condon, Jackie Davis, Mary Kornman, and Ernie Morrison, a regular in the popular ''Our Gang'' comedies during the silent era of the series, between 1922 and 1926. Early life and career Daniels was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming, the son of Welsh-born American actor Richard Daniels and his wife Hannah. In 1921, Daniels was discovered by a talent scout while performing at an amateur night at the Rialto Theatre in Rock Springs. Shortly thereafter, he was signed by Hal Roach to appear in the ''Our Gang'' film series. The red-haired, freckle-faced Daniels was one of the lead characters in the ''Our Gang'' film shorts from 1922 to 1926. Dogs Of War (film)
''Dogs of War!'' is a 1923 silent short subject, the fourteenth entry in Hal Roach's ''Our Gang'' (''Little Rascals'') series. Directed by Robert F. McGowan, the two-reel short was released to theaters in July 1923 by Pathé Exchange. The short was filmed alongside ''Why Worry?'', a feature comedy produced by Roach and starring Harold Lloyd, who makes a cameo appearance in ''Dogs of War'' as himself. Plot Near West Coast Studios in Hollywood, the gang is waging a street war against a rival group of kids; their ammunition primarily consisting of old vegetables. The battle is halted when Mary is called to act in one of the West Coast films. The rest of the gang tries to crash the studio gates and get a role in the picture, but the casting director throws them out. Farina manages to sneak into the studio, however, prompting the other kids to sneak in after her. ''The Pilgrim'' is a 1923 American silent film made by Charlie Chaplin for the First National Film Company, starring Chaplin and Edna Purviance. The film marks the last time Edna Purviance co-starred with Chaplin and the last film he made for First National. Purviance also starred in Chaplin's ''A Woman of Paris'' (1923), in which Chaplin had a brief cameo. It was Chaplin's second-shortest feature film, constructed more like a two-reeler from earlier in his career. It is also noted as the first film for Charles Reisner, who became a successful director. In 1959, Chaplin included ''The Pilgrim'' as one of three films comprising ''The Chaplin Revue''. Slightly re-edited and fully re-scored, the film contained the song "I'm Bound For Texas", written and composed by Chaplin, and sung by Matt Monro. Plot After being chased away from the county fair, the gang decides to open their own junior version of the fair, complete with wild animal displays, rides, and animal stunts. To top it off, they give a live performance set inside a giant movie frame, and impersonate several popular film stars of the day. Notes When the television rights for the original silent Pathé Our Gang comedies were sold to National Telepix and other distributors, several episodes were retitled. ''The Cobbler'' is the eighth ''Our Gang'' short subject comedy released. The ''Our Gang'' series (later known as "The Little Rascals") was created by Hal Roach in 1922, and continued production until 1944. Plot After the gang wreaks havoc in the local cobbler's shop, the friendly cobbler takes them on a picnic, during which his old Model T breaks down. While the cobbler goes to the creek to fetch water for the radiator, the gang tries to do all sorts of repairs on the car, causing more problems. Mickey and Jack accidentally disturb the rest of a sleeping hobo, who then attempts to physically attack them. The gang rigs the car with a sail after their dog chases him off to get the car going again as they sail off into the sunset. ''Young Sherlocks'' is a 1922 American silent short subject comedy film, the fourth entry in Hal Roach's ''Our Gang'' series. Directed by Robert F. McGowan and Tom McNamara, the two-reel short was released to theaters in November 1922 by Pathé. Plot The film begins with Ernie using his ingenuity to overcome his poverty and find a way to feed his little sister Farina and his steed, Dinah the mule. He encounters Jackie, who is selling newspapers, and learns about a kidnapper who is at large. Ernie then stumbles into a secret meeting of several young boys, including Mickey Daniels and Jack Davis, who call themselves the JJJs (Jesse James Juniors). They tell him that he is unwelcome in their meeting unless he can tell them what good deed he has ever done. He responds by spinning a long, and very unbelievable, tall tale of how he, Jackie, and Dinah rescued Peggy from the kidnappers. ''One Terrible Day'' is a 1922 American silent short film, the first entry in Hal Roach's ''Our Gang'' (''Little Rascals'') series to be released. Directed by Robert F. McGowan and Tom McNamara, the two-reel short was released to theaters on September 10, 1922 by Pathé. This was the first ''Our Gang'' comedy to be released, although the fourth to be produced. The gang's leading lady in this film is Peggy Cartwright, who makes only a brief appearance in the company of an unnamed character at the country estate. Allen Hoskins’s character in this early short is female.
