Mickey's Follies
''Mickey's Follies'' is a Mickey Mouse short animated film first released on August 28, 1929, as part of the ''Mickey Mouse (film series), Mickey Mouse'' film series. It was directed by Ub Iwerks and Wilfred Jackson, with music by Carl Stalling. It was produced in black and white by Walt Disney Animation Studios, The Walt Disney Studio and released to theaters by Pat Powers (businessman), Celebrity Productions. It was the tenth Mickey Mouse short to be produced, the seventh of that year. This cartoon is the first in which Mickey sings, and the song -- "Minnie's Yoo-Hoo"—was used as the opening theme for all of the ''Mickey Mouse'' cartoons from ''The Jazz Fool'' (1929) to ''Mickey's Steam Roller'' (1934). Mickey's singing voice is provided by an anonymous studio employee; in these early days, Walt Disney was not yet the exclusive voice for Mickey. Ub Iwerks
Ubbe Ert Iwwerks (March 24, 1901 – July 7, 1971), known as Ub Iwerks ( ), was an American animator, cartoonist, character designer, inventor, and special effects technician. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Iwerks grew up with a contentious relationship with his father, who abandoned him as a child. Iwerks met fellow artist Walt Disney while working at a Kansas City art studio in 1919. After briefly working as illustrators for a local newspaper company, Disney and Iwerks ventured into animation together. Iwerks joined Disney as chief animator on the Laugh-O-Gram shorts series beginning in 1922, but a studio bankruptcy would cause Disney to relocate to Los Angeles in 1923. In the new studio, Iwerks continued to work with Disney on the Alice Comedies as well as the creation of the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit character.
