Mickey's Big Broadcast
''Mickey's Big Broadcast'' is a 1933 short film in Larry Darmour's '' Mickey McGuire'' series starring a young Mickey Rooney. Directed by Jesse Duffy, the two-reel short was released to theaters on June 6, 1933 by RKO Radio Pictures. An edited version of this short appeared in the feature film compilation "Mickey the Great". Plot Mickey and the gang try to participate in a local radio contest. But with Stinky Davis and his dad up to their old tricks, the gang are left out of the contest. Instead, they decide to start their own radio show in the clubhouse. Mickey Rooney
Mickey Rooney (born Joseph Yule Jr.; other pseudonym Mickey Maguire; September 23, 1920 – April 6, 2014) was an American actor. In a career spanning nine decades, he appeared in more than 300 films and was among the last surviving stars of the silent-film era. He was the top box-office attraction from 1939 to 1941, and one of the best-paid actors of that era. At the height of a career marked by declines and comebacks, Rooney performed the role of Andy Hardy in a series of 16 films in the 1930s and 1940s that epitomized mainstream America's self-image. Billy Barty
Billy Barty (born William John Bertanzetti, October 25, 1924 – December 23, 2000) was an American actor and activist. In adult life, he stood tall, due to cartilage–hair hypoplasia dwarfism. Because of his short stature, he was often cast in films opposite taller performers for comic effect. He specialized in outspoken or wisecracking characters. During the 1950s, he became a television actor, appearing regularly in the Spike Jones ensemble. In the early 1970s he was a staple in a variety of roles in children's TV programs produced by Sid and Marty Krofft. Also an activist for people with dwarfism, he founded the Little People of America organization in 1957. RKO Radio Pictures Inc., commonly known as RKO Pictures or simply RKO, was an American film production and distribution company, one of the "Big Five" film studios of Hollywood's Golden Age. The business was formed after the Keith-Albee-Orpheum (KAO) theater chain and Joseph P. Kennedy's Film Booking Offices of America (FBO) studio were brought together under the control of the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in October 1928. ''Mickey McGuire'' is an American comedy series of short subjects from 1927 to 1934. Produced by Larry Darmour, the series was notable for essentially launching the careers of Mickey Rooney and Billy Barty. The series was based on Fontaine Fox's popular comic strip series, Toonerville Trolley. In 1925 Fox placed a newspaper ad for a dark-haired child to play the role of "Mickey McGuire" in a series of short films. This ad attracted the attention of Mrs Nell Yule, the recently separated wife of vaudevillian Joseph Yule, who believed her son Joseph "Joe" Yule, Jr. (later known as Mickey Rooney) was right for the part. Jimmy Robinson (actor)
James O. Robinson Jr. (1918–1967) was an American film actor. Early life Robinson was born on 30 July 1918, in Los Angeles, California, as the son of James O. Robinson Sr. Career He played the role of "Hambone" Johnson in Fontaine Fox's Mickey McGuire film series of short subjects. He was in the series from its beginning in 1927 until its end in 1934, appearing in most of the shorts in series. During his Mickey McGuire days, Robinson also appeared in other films, such as Tenderfeet and Penrod and Sam. After the McGuire series, Robinson continued to act, but mostly in bit parts. Death Robinson died from an illness on 2 November 1967, at the age of 49, in his California home.
