Daniel Micka (born 22 April 1963 in Prague) is a Czech writer and translator from English and French into Czech. His stories have been published since 1992 in a range of Czech literary periodicals, later he has published three collections of his stories in a book form. The first book ''Overwhelmed by Love for Someone'' was published in 1996, and its sequel ''Fear of People'' in 2001. His next related collection ''Looking for Someone and Dreaming About Making Love to Them'' was released first in 2007 as an e-book and in a book form in 2011. His stories became the inspiration for two plays and some have been published in translation into Finnish, Dutch and Polish in foreign literary anthologies and magazines. USS ''Micka'' (DE-176) was a in service with the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. She was sold for scrap in 1967. Namesake Edward Micka was born on 10 October 1915 at Cayuga, North Dakota. He enlisted in the United States Navy on 19 June 1934. Appointed midshipman from the Navy at large the following year, he was commissioned Ensign on 1 June 1939. He served on and prior to receiving his wings as a navy pilot and was attached to Fighting Squadron 9, on board , in November 1942. On 8 November 1942, he led three flights in support of the initial phase of Operation Torch, the assault and occupation of Morocco. In the first two flights he led his sections against airdromes at Rabat Sale and Port Lyautey, destroying at least 17 hostile planes on the ground. During the third his section provided direct support to ground forces by destroying several machine gun nests. Jan Micka (; born 15 January 1995 in Prague) is a Czech swimmer, who specialized in long-distance freestyle events. He is a two-time Czech record holder in the 800 and 1500 m freestyle. Micka is a member of the swimming team for USK Praha, and is coached and trained by Jaroslava Passerova. Micka qualified for the men's 1500 m freestyle, as Czech Republic's youngest swimmer (aged 17), at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, by eclipsing a FINA B-standard entry time of 15:28.49 from the European Junior Championships in Antwerp, Belgium.
