Jules Michelet
Jules Michelet (; 21 August 1798 – 9 February 1874) was a French historian and an author on other topics whose major work was a history of France and its culture. His aphoristic style emphasized his anti-clerical republicanism. In Michelet's 1855 work, ''Histoire de France'' (History of France), he adopted the term "rebirth" that was used first in a work published in 1550 by the Italian art historian Giorgio Vasari. The term was used by Vasari to describe the advent of a new manner of painting that began with the work of Giotto, as the "rebirth (''rinascita'') of the arts." Michelet thereby became the first historian to use and define the French translation of the term, ''renaissance'',Murray, P. and Murray, L. (1963) ''The Art of the Renaissance''. Christian Fredrik Michelet (politician)
Christian Fredrik Michelet (23 June 1863 – 25 July 1927) was a Norwegian lawyer and politician for the Conservative Party. He was born in Christiania (now Oslo) as a son of Colonel Georg Ove von Ramel Michelet (1830–1908) and Anna Beate Stang (1838–1866). He was a paternal grandson of Christian Fredrik Michelet (1792–1874) and a maternal grandson of Thomas Andersen Stang. He was a nephew of Carl Johan Michelet, first cousin of Major Christian Fredrik Michelet and second cousin of theologian Simon Michelet. In May 1888 he married Betzy Holmsen (1867–1951). He finished his secondary education at Aars og Voss in 1881, and graduated with the cand.jur. degree in 1886. After graduation, he was a deputy judge and junior solicitor for Nils Nicolaysen, before opening his own lawyer's firm Michelet og Harbitz together with Edmund Harbitz in 1890. Maren Bastine Hals Michelet (May 26, 1869 – February 5, 1932) was the first Norwegian teacher in any public high school in the United States and promoter of Scandinavian culture. She was also a referent teacher for Scandinavian languages when the three-language education system (of the land, of the immigrant homes, for professional purposes) was introduced in public school in the United States. Marie Elisabeth Michelet, née Storjohann (10 March 1866 – 3 April 1951) was a Norwegian writer and housewives' leader. Personal life She was born in Bergen as a daughter of priest Johan Cordt Harmens Storjohann (1832–1914) and Nanna Storjohann, née Holmboe (1838–1898). She spent several childhood years in London, where her father was stationed, and later attended school in Germany and the UK. She was a maternal granddaughter of Hans Holmboe and first cousin of Marie Joys. In September 1888 he married theologian Simon Themstrup Michelet (1863–1942). Athénaïs Michelet (1826–1899), née Athénaïs Mialaret, was a French natural history writer and memoirist. She wrote independently and in collaboration with her husband, Jules Michelet (1798-1874). Marriage and literary collaboration While tutoring the children of the Princess Cantacuzène in Vienna, Athénaïs first encountered Jules Michelet through his literary work. She had written to him after reading ''Du prêtre, de la femme et de la famille''. They began a correspondence that ensued for years and they became engaged before meeting. They married in 1849, ten years after the death of his first wife. Their mutual literary interests remained the basis of their relationship even after their marriage. Carl Johan Michelet (25 July 1826 - 30 January 1902) was a Norwegian lawyer and civil servant. He served as Mayor of Oslo and was elected as a member of the Norwegian Parliament (''Storting''). Biography He was born at Aurskog in Akershus, Norway. His parents were Christian Frederik Michelet (1792-1874) and Edle Michaeline (1804-1892). Christian Frederik Michelet (7 December 1792 – 13 May 1874) was a Norwegian military officer. He was born at Moland in Fyresdal as a son of vicar Johan Wilhelm Michelet (1753–1805) and Sophie Amalie Tuchsen. He was named after his paternal grandfather. He was a great-grandson of Hans Michelet and nephew of Jørgen Michelet. In December 1821 in Eidsberg he married Edle Michaeline Rasch (1804–1892). Else Michelet (16 February 1942 – 3 May 2021) was a Norwegian journalist, satirical writer and songwriter. Early and personal life Michelet was born in Trondheim as a daughter of teacher Frans Oscar Michelet (1906–1984) and housewife Synnøve née Kulseng (1905–1981). Edmond Michelet
Edmond Michelet (8 October 1899 – 9 October 1970) was a French politician. He is the father of the writer Claude Michelet. On 17 June 1940, he distributed tracts calling to continue the war in all Brive-la-Gaillarde's mailboxes. It is considered to be the first act of resistance of World War II in France, one day before Charles de Gaulle's Appeal of 18 June. He helped many victims of the Nazis in occupied France, including Catholic philosopher Dietrich von Hildebrand. In 1943 he was arrested and incarcerated at the Dachau concentration camp where he assisted other prisoners during a typhus epidemic and was infected himself. He wore the armband No. 52579 When Dachau was liberated he was still aiding the sick and was the last to leave, on 26 May 1945. (While a prisoner, he was helped by abbé Franz Stock.). John Jacob Mickley (1697–1769) (born Jean Jacques Michelet) was an early settler of Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. Early life and education Mickley was born Jean Jacques Michelet in 1697 in Zweibrücken, Germany. He was the eldest son of Louis Michelet (1675–1750) and Susanne Mangeot (1674–1710). His parents were Protestants from Metz, who moved to Zweibrücken to get married. There, his father became pastor of a Huguenot congregation.
