Michele DeJuliis
Michele DeJuliis was appointed as the commissioner of the inaugural United Women's Lacrosse League in 2015, holding the position until December 2016. On May 23, 2013, DeJuliis was elected to the US National Lacrosse Hall of Fame. and captured a gold medal with the United States women's national lacrosse team at the 2009 Women's Lacrosse World Cup. Career Gaining All-America honors as a member of the Penn State Nittany Lions women's lacrosse team, she would amass 142 goals and 203 career points. Of note, she was part of the US national team program since 1994. United Women's Lacrosse League
The United Women’s Lacrosse League (UWLX) was a women's lacrosse league in the United States. It was co-founded in Boston, Massachusetts, by Digit Murphy and Aronda Kirby of the Play It Forward Sports Foundation, under the ownership of United Women's Sports LLC in a strategic partnership with STX. Penn State women's lacrosse alum and former United States national team player Michele DeJuliis was appointed as the league’s first commissioner. DeJuliis left after the 2016 season to found the Women's Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL); Kristan Ash served as the second and final league commissioner. The league comprised four teams: the Baltimore Ride, Boston Storm, Long Island Sound and Philadelphia Force. United States Women's National Lacrosse Team
The United States women's national lacrosse team represents the United States in the World Lacrosse World Cup championships held every four years. The team was first selected in 1933 after the United States Women's Lacrosse Association was founded in 1931. The team has won nine championships, including the last championship, which was in 2022. The 2009 Women's Lacrosse World Cup, the eighth World Cup played, is the preeminent international women's lacrosse tournament. The tournament was held at SK Slavia Praha Sport Centre in Prague, Czech Republic from June 17 to June 27, 2009. USA defeated Australia in the finals to win the tournament. Sponsoring organizations The event is sponsored by the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) and the ''Czech Women’s Lacrosse'' (CWL). World Lacrosse (WL), formerly the Federation of International Lacrosse, is the international governing body of lacrosse, responsible for the men's, women's, and indoor versions of the sport.
