Micheldever is a village in Hampshire, England, situated north of Winchester. It lies upon the River Dever . The river, and village, formerly part of Stratton Park, lie on a Hampshire grass downland, underlain with chalk and flint. Parts of the river now disappear in summer through lack of replenishment, evaporation and, more specifically, the porous nature of the bedrock. Weston Colley
Weston Colley is a hamlet of about twenty dwellings, adjacent to (and within the parish of) Micheldever, Winchester, Hampshire, England. It is within the City of Winchester local government ward of Wonston And Micheldever. Winchester is also the nearest large settlement, lying approximately south of the hamlet. History Within the past thirty years, the landed estate which owned much of Weston Colley has sold (mostly to private owners) its housing portfolio, retaining most of the farmland within and around the hamlet, together with Weston Farm, which is run on a long tenancy. The landed estate is now owned by Zurich Financial Services, which acquired it as part of its buy-out of Eagle Star Insurance - which, in-turn, bought the assets from the estate of J. St Mary's Church, Micheldever
St Mary's Church is an Anglicanism, Anglican church in Micheldever, Hampshire, England. It is in the Diocese of Winchester. The building, which is listed building, Grade II* listed, is unusual for its octagonal nave. Micheldever Railway Station
Micheldever railway station, in the village of Micheldever Station, serves Micheldever (approximately to the south) and the surrounding area in Hampshire, England. It is a flint building with an added veranda. The station is on the South West Main Line, down the line from towards Southampton and is managed by South Western Railway. The station is near the A303 Basingstoke to Andover road approximately from the village. History It was originally called "Andover Road" until Andover got its own station. Following the construction of the station, a cluster of houses and small shops (including the ''Canada Stores'') were attracted to the area, creating the village known as Micheldever Station. Stratton Park
Stratton Park, in East Stratton, Hampshire, was an English country house, built on the site of a grange of Hyde Abbey after the dissolution of the monasteries; it was purchased with the manor of Micheldever in 1546 by Thomas Wriothesley, 1st Earl of Southampton. The last earl of Southampton made Stratton Park one of his chief seats, and his son-in-law, Sir William Russell, pulled down part of the hamlet and added it to his deer park in the 1660s. The Russell heirs eventually sold the estate in 1801 to Sir Francis Baring, Bt, of the Baring banking family. Baring remodeled the manor house in a neoclassical style, to designs by George Dance the Younger, 1803–06,' including an imposing stone Doric-columned portico and stuccoed brick main block and wings. The River Dever is a chalk stream in Hampshire in the south of England. It rises at West Stratton near Micheldever and flows westwards for to meet the River Test at Wherwell. Course The source is at Above Ordnance Datum (AOD) alongside the A33, the main road north-east from Winchester, of Roman origin, and meanders west through the village of Micheldever, three hamlets: Weston Colley, Stoke Charity and Wonston, then its largest village, Sutton Scotney, followed by Upper and Lower Bullington. A303
The A303 is a trunk road in southern England, running between Basingstoke in Hampshire and Honiton in Devon via Stonehenge. Connecting the M3 and the A30, it is part of one of the main routes from London to Devon and Cornwall. It is a primary A road throughout its length, passing through five counties. The road has evolved from historical routes, some of which are thousands of years old, including the Harrow Way and the Fosse Way. The modern route was first laid out in the early 19th century as the New Direct Road, a faster coaching route from London to Exeter. It was initially in demand but fell into disuse as railways became popular from the 1840s onwards.
