Michel Bidimbou Pouela is a Congolese politician who has served as a Deputy in the National Assembly of Congo-Brazzaville since 2007. Political career Bidimbou was elected as Secretary-General of the Union for the Republic (UR), a small pro-government party led by Benjamin Bounkoulou, at a party meeting in Nkayi in December 2006. In the June–August 2007 parliamentary election, Bidimbou was elected to the National Assembly as the UR candidate in Kayes constituency, located in Bouenza Department Bouenza (can also be written as ''Buenza'') is a department of the Republic of the Congo in the southern part of the country. The Union for the Republic (''Union pour la République'', UR) is a political party in the Republic of the Congo. It was founded on March 15, 1995, under the leadership of Benjamin Bounkoulou. The UR was established by members of parliament who left the ruling Pan-African Union for Social Democracy (UPADS) and another party in January 1995, complaining of government favoritism towards people from Niari Region and Lékoumou Region at the expense of Bouenza Region, from which these members of parliament originated. Benjamin Bounkoulou
Benjamin Bounkoulou (born 25 September 1942"Bounkoulou Benjamin", ''Congo Brazzaville: Les Hommes de Pouvoir'', number 1Africa Intelligence 29 October 2002 .) is a Congolese politician who served in the government of Congo-Brazzaville as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1992 to 1995 under President Pascal Lissouba. He has been President of the Union for the Republic (UR), a political party, since 1995. Bounkoulou was Second Vice-President of the National Transitional Council from 1998 to 2002 and First Vice-President of the Senate from 2002 to 2011. After failing to win re-election to the Senate in 2011, he was instead elected to the National Assembly in 2012 and served as President of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Commission. Nkayi is a town and a Communes of the Republic of the Congo, commune in the Bouenza, Bouenza Department of the Republic of the Congo. Congolese Labour Party
The Congolese Party of Labour (french: Parti congolais du travail, PCT) is the ruling party of the Republic of the Congo. Founded in 1969 by Marien Ngouabi, it was originally a pro-Soviet, Marxism–Leninism, Marxist–Leninist vanguard party which founded the People's Republic of the Congo. It took a more moderate Left-wing politics, left-wing stance following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991 and adopted social democracy as its principal ideology in 2006. 2012 Republic Of The Congo Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in the Republic of the Congo on 15 July 2012. A second round was held on 5 August 2012. The second round was previously moved forward to 29 July, without explanation, but ultimately was held on the original date. Electoral system The 139 seats in the National Assembly were elected in single-member constituencies. If no candidate received a majority of votes, a second round was held in that constituency, in which the candidate receiving the most votes was declared the winner. Candidates had to be at least 25 years old and have no criminal record.
