Polish Language
Polish (Polish: ''język polski'', , ''polszczyzna'' or simply ''polski'', ) is a West Slavic language of the Lechitic group written in the Latin script. It is spoken primarily in Poland and serves as the native language of the Poles. In addition to being the official language of Poland, it is also used by the Polish diaspora. There are over 50 million Polish speakers around the world. It ranks as the sixth most-spoken among languages of the European Union. Polish is subdivided into regional dialects and maintains strict T–V distinction pronouns, honorifics, and various forms of formalities when addressing individuals. The traditional 32-letter Polish alphabet has nine additions (''ą'', ''ć'', ''ę'', ''ł'', ''ń'', ''ó'', ''ś'', ''ź'', ''ż'') to the letters of the basic 26-letter Latin alphabet, while removing three (x, q, v). Michał Gedeon Radziwiłł
Prince Michał Gedeon Hieronim Radziwiłł (24 September 1778 – 24 May 1850) was a Polish–Lithuanian szlachcic, senator, owner of the Nieborów and others properties. Related to Radziwiłł family from Nieśwież (Dominik Hieronim Radziwiłł). He took part in the Kościuszko Uprising (1794). In January 1807 colonel and commander of the Legion-du-Nord, and later the 5th regiment of infantry (Duchy of Warsaw). He took part in the siege of Gdańsk, and was later stationed with his regiment in Gdańsk. In 1811 he was made general-de-brigade. In the campaign of 1812 he commanded the brigade of infantry in the “Polish division” of general Grandjean in the Jacques MacDonald’s 10th Army Corps. He took part in defense of Gdańsk in 1813 (under general Jean Rapp) and when fortress capitulated he was taken prisoner. In 1815 he resigned his commission and settled in Nieborów. Michał Rola-Żymierski
Michał Rola-Żymierski (; 4 September 189015 October 1989) was a Polish high-ranking Communist Party leader, communist military commander and NKVD secret agent. He was appointed as Marshal of Poland by Joseph Stalin, and served in this position from 1945 until his death. He supported the 1981 imposition of Martial law in Poland. Early life Rola-Żymierski was born Michał Łyżwiński in Kraków under the Austrian Partition, to the family of railway clerk, Wojciech Łyżwiński. He joined the Zarzewie and later joined the Polish Rifle Squads. At the age of 20, he enrolled at the law faculty of the Jagiellonian University in 1910, but was drafted a year later. In the years 1911–1912, he served compulsory service in the Austro-Hungarian Army, where he graduated from the school of reserve officers. Michał Życzkowski (12 April 1930 – 24 May 2006) was a Polish mechanical engineer. Career Życzkowski was born in Kraków. In 1954 he graduated at the Tadeusz Kościuszko University of Technology, and in 1958 he received a diploma at the Imperial College London. He became Professor and doctor honoris causa of the Cracow University of Technology, full member of Polish Academy of Sciences and Polish Academy of Learning, Foreign Corresponding Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. He was the youngest professor in the history of Poland during his time. He became professor at the age of 31. He advised 29 Ph.D. students, 11 of them were promoted to professors. He had four children, among them Karol Życzkowski. He died in his home city of Krakow. Michał Ryszard Żewłakow (; born 22 April 1976) is a Polish former footballer who played as a defender. He captained the Poland national team and is its third most capped player ever. Besides Poland, he has played in Belgium, Greece, and Turkey. Michał Korybut Wiśniowiecki
Michael I ( pl, Michał Korybut Wiśniowiecki, lt, Mykolas I Kaributas Višnioveckis; 31 May 1640 – 10 November 1673) was the ruler of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth as King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania from 29 September 1669 until his death in 1673. Michael was chosen partly because of the merit of his father, prince Jeremi Wiśniowiecki, a powerful border magnate who had helped suppress the Cossacks in eastern Poland during the Khmelnytsky Uprising. After Michael's early death, these setbacks were reversed at the Battle of Khotyn in 1673 by his successor, John III Sobieski, who defeated an Austrian candidate in the election. Michał Jerzy Winiarski (born 28 September 1983) is a Polish professional volleyball coach and former player. He was a member of the Poland national team from 2004 to 2014. Michał Szpak (born 26 November 1990) is a Polish singer who found fame on the inaugural season of the Polish ''X Factor'' in 2011. On 12 May 2016, Szpak represented Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm, Sweden with the song " Color of Your Life". Early life Michał was born in Jasło, a small town in southern Poland. His older sister Marlena is an Opera singer born from his father Andrzej Szpak's first marriage. Michał Sopoćko
Michael Sopoćko ( pl, Michał Sopoćko ; 1 November 1888 – 15 February 1975) was a Polish Roman Catholic priest and professor at Vilnius University. He is best known as the spiritual director of Faustina Kowalska. He was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI in 2008. Life Sopoćko was born to Polish parents in 1888 in Juszewszczyzna (also known as Nowosady) near Valozhyn within the Russian Empire, now Belarus. He entered Vilnius Priest Seminary in 1910 and was ordained in 1914. He was a priest in Vilnius (1914–1918) and then a chaplain in the army in Warsaw and Vilnius during World War I. After obtaining his doctorate in theology in 1926, he became the spiritual director at the seminary in Vilnius and, in 1928, professor of pastoral theology at Stefan Batory University, in Vilnius. Divine Mercy Sopoćko was very supportive of the Divine Mercy devotion of Faustina Kowalska and in her diary (Notebook V, item 1238) she stated: "This priest is a great soul, entirely filled with God." ...
