Michal Lobkowicz
Michal Lobkowicz (born 1964) is a former Czech politician and member of the Lobkowicz family. In 1998, he briefly served as Ministry of Defence (Czech Republic), defense minister in the Cabinet of Josef Tošovský, cabinet of Josef Tošovský, at the age of 34, becoming the Czech Republic's youngest defense minister. He was a member of Civic Democratic Party (Czech Republic), Civic Democratic Party but left it for Freedom Union – Democratic Union, Freedom Union due to its financial scandal, leaving politics in 2002. Lobkowicz Family
The House of Lobkowicz (''Lobkovicové'' in modern Czech, sg. ''z Lobkovic''; ''Lobkowitz'' in German) is a Czech noble family that dates back to the 14th century and is one of the oldest Bohemian noble families. The family also belong to the German, Austrian and Belgian nobility. The first Lobkowiczs were members of the gentry of north-eastern Bohemia in the late 14th century. The family's Imperial immediacy over Princely county of Störnstein was mediatized by Bavaria in 1807. Josef Tošovský
Josef Tošovský () (born 28 September 1950) is a Czech economist and former governor of Czech National Bank (from 1993 to 2000). From 17 December 1997 to 22 July 1998 he was the prime minister of the Czech Republic in a caretaker government. Career Tošovský studied international trade at the University of Economics, Prague from 1968 to 1973. After graduating, he was employed by the State Bank of Czechoslovakia, where he held a number of posts, including adviser to the chairman. He also worked in London during the 1980s at the branch office of Zivnostenska Banka. In 1989, he was appointed Governor of the State Bank. Following the split of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic and the establishment of the Czech National Bank, he was appointed Governor of the Czech National Bank on 20 January 1993. Civic Democratic Party (Czech Republic)
The Civic Democratic Party ( cs, Občanská demokratická strana, ODS) is a liberal-conservative and soft eurosceptic political party in the Czech Republic. It holds 34 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, and is the second strongest party by number of seats following the 2021 election. It is the only political party in the Czech Republic that has always been represented in the Chamber of Deputies. Founded in 1991 as the pro-free market wing of the Civic Forum by Václav Klaus and modeled on the British Conservative Party, the ODS won the 1992 legislative election, and has remained in government for most of the Czech Republic's independence. Freedom Union – Democratic Union
The Freedom Union–Democratic Union ( cs, Unie Svobody–Demokratická unie, US–DEU) was a small pro-European liberal party in the Czech Republic from 1998 to 2011. Freedom Union was founded in January 1998 by former members of the Civic Democratic Party who were unhappy with the leadership of Václav Klaus. After initially serving in a caretaker government, Freedom Union went into opposition after the 1998 election. In opposition Freedom Union merged with the Democratic Union party and formed an alliance with the Christian Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party. From 2002 to 2006 Freedom Union was part of a coalition government with the Social Democratic Party and the Christian Democratic Union.
