Michal Escapa ( he, מיכל אסקפה) is a former Israeli Paralympic champion. The wrong reports Since at the dawn of the Paralympic Games there was no precision in reporting the results of the competitions, the Israeli athlete was indicated with the Italian nationality and without prename (and so she is mentioned in the International Paralympic Committee of the Italian Paralympic Committee web sites) for the reports of the Swimming at the 1964 Summer Paralympics where she won two bronze medals, simply reported as Escapa and not as Michal Escapa. However, as can be seen from a 1968 Israeli newspaper reporting an interview with the athlete, she was the same athlete who had won medals in swimming and table tennis in Tokyo 1964. Para Swimming
Para swimming is an adaptation of the sport of swimming for athletes with disabilities. Para swimmers compete at the Summer Paralympic Games and at other sports competitions throughout the world. The sport is governed by the International Paralympic Committee. Both men and women compete in para swimming, racing against competitors of their own gender. Swimming has been a part of the Paralympic program since the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, Italy. Wheelchair Table Tennis
Para table tennis is a parasports which follows the rules set by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). The usual table tennis rules are in effect with slight modifications for wheelchair athletes. Athletes from disability groups can take part. Athletes receive classifications between 1-11. Classes 1-5 are for those in wheelchairs and classes 6-10 for those who have disabilities that allow them to play standing. Within those groups, the higher classification means the more function the athlete has. Class 11 is defined for players with an intellectual disability. Israel Sports Center For The Disabled
The Israel Sports Center for the Disabled (ISCD; ) is an Israeli institution operated by ILAN aimed at rehabilitation of physically disabled people. History The ISCD was established in 1960 in Ramat Gan by ILAN activist Betty Dubiner. The land lot was provided by the municipality of Ramat Gan and the initial facilities were constructed partly due to a donation by Bella and Samuel Spewack from income made on their play Kiss Me, Kate. It was first of its kind in Israel and one of the few operating at the time worldwide. In its early years, the center was mostly used by Polio virus victims. Polio
Poliomyelitis, commonly shortened to polio, is an infectious disease caused by the poliovirus.
