Michal Barda
Michal Barda (born 27 June 1955) is a Czech former handball goalkeeper and coach who competed in the 1988 Summer Olympics. Player career Born in Prague, he practiced a lot of sports as table tennis, football and skiing when he started with team handball at Slavia Praha in 1965. From the beginning he played in goal and was moved up to their senior squad at the age of fifteen. 1976, at the age of twenty-one, he made his first cap for Czechoslovakia; in total he played 218 caps and as a goalkeeper scored 4 goals (!) between 1976 and 1992. In 1979 and after 14 years with Slavia Praha, he moved to HC Dukla Praha which he helped to raise to one of the most prominent European clubs at that time, including the 1984 Champions League win over Metaloplastika Sabac. Team Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it. Handball-Bundesliga
The Handball-Bundesliga (HBL) is the top German professional handball league. From 2007 onwards, the league was sponsored by Toyota and has officially been called the ''Toyota Handball-Bundesliga''. The European Handball Federation (EHF) is the umbrella organisation for European handball. Founded on 17 November 1991, it is made of 50 member federations and two associated federations (England and Scotland), and is headquartered in Vienna, Austria. Czech Handball
Czech handball (Czech: ''česká házená'', also known as ''národní házená'' – ''national handball'') is an outdoor ball game which was created in 1905 in Prague and is still played today. This sport is very similar to team handball. History Czech handball is first mentioned by Václav Karas, a teacher a Prague, in a sports journal in Brno in 1905. The rules were soon further developed by other teachers, notably Klenka and Kristof. Thanks to Kristof, the first Czech handball association was established (in Prague) and the rules were made public in 1908. Students from Russia and Yugoslavia, who had become acquainted with Czech handball in Prague, brought this sport back to their own countries.
