Michal Aharon
Michal Aharon is an Israeli computer scientist known for her research on sparse dictionary learning, image denoising, and the K-SVD algorithm in machine learning. She is a researcher on advertisement ranking for Yahoo! in Haifa. Education and career Aharon was a student at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, earning bachelor's and master's degrees there in 2001 and 2004, and completing her Ph.D. in 2006. Her dissertation, ''Learning Dictionaries for Sparse Representations'', was supervised by Michael Elad. After working for HP Labs in Haifa, Aharon moved to Yahoo! Labs in 2011. In 2014, she became head of the Yahoo! ad ranking science team, which develops algorithms for advertisement selection for Yahoo! Native Yahoo! Native (formerly known as Yahoo! Advertising, Yahoo! Sparse Dictionary Learning
Sparse coding is a representation learning method which aims at finding a sparse representation of the input data (also known as sparse coding) in the form of a linear combination of basic elements as well as those basic elements themselves. These elements are called ''atoms'' and they compose a ''dictionary''. Atoms in the dictionary are not required to be orthogonal, and they may be an over-complete spanning set. This problem setup also allows the dimensionality of the signals being represented to be higher than the one of the signals being observed. The above two properties lead to having seemingly redundant atoms that allow multiple representations of the same signal but also provide an improvement in sparsity and flexibility of the representation. Noise reduction is the process of removing noise from a signal. Noise reduction techniques exist for audio and images. Noise reduction algorithms may distort the signal to some degree. Noise rejection is the ability of a circuit to isolate an undesired signal component from the desired signal component, as with common-mode rejection ratio. All signal processing devices, both analog and digital, have traits that make them susceptible to noise. Noise can be random with an even frequency distribution (white noise), or frequency-dependent noise introduced by a device's mechanism or signal processing algorithms. K-SVD
In applied mathematics, K-SVD is a dictionary learning algorithm for creating a dictionary for sparse representations, via a singular value decomposition approach. K-SVD is a generalization of the k-means clustering method, and it works by iteratively alternating between sparse coding the input data based on the current dictionary, and updating the atoms in the dictionary to better fit the data. Quality Score
Quality Score is a metric used by Google, Yahoo! (called ''Quality Index''), Facebook (called Ad Quality) and Bing that influences the ad rank and cost per click (CPC) of ads. To determine the position of the ad on a search engine, each ad is allocated using a process which takes into account the bid and the Quality Score. Ads are then listed in descending order based on the result of that equation. The exact weight of Quality Score versus bid has not been revealed by any of the major search engines, and each company has stated that they reserve the right to continually adjust their ranking methodologies. Michael Elad
Michael Elad (born December 10, 1963) is a professor of Computer Science at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. His work includes fundamental contributions in the field of sparse representations, and deployment of these ideas to algorithms and applications in signal processing, image processing and machine learning.
