Michael Van Gerwen
Michael van Gerwen (; born 25 April 1989) is a Dutch professional darts player. He is currently ranked number 3 in the world, having been number 1 from 2014 to 2021. He is also a three-time PDC World Champion, having won the title in 2014, 2017 and 2019. Van Gerwen is regarded as one of the best players of all time. Van Gerwen began playing darts at the age of 13. He won the 2006 World Masters and threw a televised nine-dart finish at the 2007 Masters of Darts, becoming the youngest player to do both, aged 17. However, after this initial burst onto the darting scene, van Gerwen struggled for consistent form until his breakthrough year in 2012. Improving from world number 38 at the start of 2012 to number four at the beginning of 2013, he won his first major PDC title at the World Grand Prix and reached the final at the 2013 World Championship. 2013 Premier League Darts
The 2013 McCoy's Premier League Darts was a darts tournament organised by the Professional Darts Corporation; the ninth edition of the tournament. The event began at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast on 7 February, and ended at The O2 Arena, London on 16 May. The tournament was shown live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland. Phil Taylor was the defending champion and he reached the final again this year, but lost 10–8 against Michael van Gerwen who won his first Premier League title on his debut appearance in the competition. Qualification The qualification format was different from the last edition of Premier League Darts. The 2012 PartyPoker.com World Grand Prix was the fifteenth staging of the World Grand Prix. It was played from 8–14 October 2012 at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin, Ireland. Phil Taylor was the defending champion, but he lost 2–3 to Robert Thornton in the second round. The final was won by Michael van Gerwen, who won his first major title by defeating Mervyn King 6–4. 2019 Champions League Of Darts
The 2019 Paddy Power Champions League of Darts was the 4th annual staging of the Champions League of Darts, organised by the Professional Darts Corporation. It took place from 19–20 October 2019 at the Morningside Arena, Leicester. The defending champion was Gary Anderson who beat Peter Wright 11–4 in the 2018 final, but he was eliminated in the group stage. Michael van Gerwen won the Champions League for the first time, beating Peter Wright 11–10 in the final, surviving three match darts at 7–10, and by winning that title, van Gerwen became the only player to win every PDC premier event title at least once. 2022 World Matchplay
The 2022 Betfred World Matchplay will be the 29th annual staging of the World Matchplay, organised by the Professional Darts Corporation. The tournament will take place at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, from 16 to 24 July 2022. Peter Wright is the defending champion after defeating Dimitri Van den Bergh 18–9 in the 2021 final. This tournament will also have a separate women's event taking place on the day of the final of the main tournament. Prize money The prize fund will increase by £100,000 and rise to £800,000. It is unclear how it is going to be broken down as of yet. Format All games have to be won by two clear legs, with a game being extended if necessary for a maximum of six extra legs before a tie-break leg is required. The 2016 BetVictor World Matchplay was the 23rd annual staging of the World Matchplay (darts), World Matchplay, organised by the Professional Darts Corporation. The tournament took place at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, Winter Gardens, Blackpool, from 16–24 July 2016. Michael van Gerwen successfully defended his World Matchplay title by defeating Phil Taylor (darts player), Phil Taylor 18–10 in the final. It was the eighteenth year of the tournament where players compete in a single elimination tournament to be crowned champion. The tournament was held for the seventh time at the Butlin's Resort in Minehead, England, between 6–8 March 2020, and has the nickname, "the FA Cup of darts" as a random draw is staged after each round following the conclusion of the third round until the final. It was the fourteenth year of the tournament where, following numerous regional qualifying heats throughout Britain, players competing in a single elimination tournament to be crowned champion. The 2022 Cazoo Premier League Darts is an ongoing darts tournament, organised by the Professional Darts Corporation – the eighteenth edition of the tournament. The event began on Thursday 3 February 2022, at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, and is scheduled to end with the play-offs, at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin on Monday 13 June 2022. Jonny Clayton is the reigning champion after defeating José de Sousa 11–5 in the 2021 final. The 2019 Unibet Premier League Darts was a darts tournament organised by the Professional Darts Corporation – the fifteenth edition of the tournament. The event began on Thursday 7 February at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle and ended with the Play-offs at The O2 Arena in London on Thursday 23 May.
