Michael Woods (footballer)
Michael James Woods (born 6 April 1990) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for South Shields. He started his career at Chelsea, and has since played for Harrogate Town, Hartlepool United, Dover Athletic and York City. Club career Chelsea Born in York, North Yorkshire, Woods turned down a scholarship from Leeds United to sign for Chelsea. Leeds United chairman Ken Bates accused Chelsea of tapping-up the sixteen-year-old as well as two other academy players. Eventually the two clubs later agreed an out-of-court settlement, with Chelsea paying £5 million in compensation for Woods and Tom Taiwo. After spending time in the reserves, Woods made his first-team debut for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge against Macclesfield Town in the third round of the FA Cup on 6 January 2007, making him the fourth-youngest player to ever play for Chelsea at 16 years and 275 days old. Gary Stephen Johnson (born 28 September 1955) is a former football player and is currently manager at Torquay United. Johnson was formerly with Cambridge United, Kettering Town, Watford (as director of their youth academy), the Latvian national team, Yeovil Town in two spells, Bristol City, Peterborough United, Northampton Town and Cheltenham Town. His son Lee is the head coach of Hibernian. Playing career Johnson signed for Watford as an apprentice at sixteen and turned professional at the age of eighteen. Macclesfield is a market town and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East in Cheshire, England. Thomas James William Taiwo (born 27 February 1990) is an English former footballer who played as a midfielder. An England under-17 international, he graduated out of the Chelsea academy to turn professional in 2008, having switched from the Leeds United Academy two years earlier. He never appeared for the first team, and instead enjoyed a brief loan spell at Port Vale, before he joined Carlisle United on a loan deal that was made permanent in January 2010. He played in two consecutive League Trophy finals for the club, as Carlisle were defeated in 2010, before they won the tournament in 2011.
