Michael Werner (footballer)
Michael Werner (born 10 June 1969) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Essendon and the Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL). Werner, who was from Canberra, started his career at Manuka-Weston after playing junior football with Eastlake. He spent the 1988 season in the SANFL as a full-forward with West Torrens and kicked 38 goals to finish as their leading goal kicker. In 1988 he also represented the ACT at the Adelaide Bicentennial Carnival. Essendon then secured his services with pick nine in the 1988 VFL draft and he went on to spend the next four seasons as a key forward in the AFL. He kicked 27 goals in 1990 but missed that year's finals series where Essendon made the Grand Final. In 1991 he made just six senior appearances but notably kicked four goals in Essendon's Elimination Final loss to Melbourne. At the end of the 1992 season, Werner was traded to Sydney. West Torrens Football Club
West Torrens Football Club was an Australian rules football club that competed in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) from 1897 to 1990. In 1991, the club merged with neighbouring Woodville Football Club to form the Woodville-West Torrens Eagles. With the proposed introduction of representative Districts for clubs in the SAFA the Native Club in 1896 derived its name from Electoral district of West Torrens and based itself in the western suburbs of Adelaide, around the western reaches of the River Torrens. Club history A precursor club in the district was the West Adelaide Football Club (1878–1887) that was founded in 1878 as the West Torrens and dissolved after just one season in the SAFA after changing its name to West Adelaide and wearing colours of Red, White and Blue in 1887. Riddell District Football League
The Riddell District Football Netball League (RDFNL) is an Australian rules football and netball league in Victoria, Australia. The RDFNL covers towns in the Macedon Ranges and an area from Rockbank in the south to Broadford in the north. The league also runs junior competitions from Under 10 to Under 18 age groups. Brief history 1970s This decade saw Hesket club go into recess and the introduction of new clubs Craigieburn, Melton and Melton South. In 1975 the league went two divisional, With eight teams in First Division and six clubs in Second Division. The 1988 VFL draft, held on the 9th of November 1988, was the third annual national draft held by the VFL/AFL, Victorian Football League (now known as the Australian Football League). It consisted of a pre-season draft and a national draft. In 1988 there were 112 picks to be drafted between 14 teams in the national draft. 1988 Adelaide Bicentennial Carnival
The 1988 Adelaide Bicentennial Carnival was the 22nd edition of the Australian National Football Carnival, an Australian rules football State of Origin competition. Australia was celebrating its Bicentenary in 1988, so the carnival was known as the 'Bicentennial Carnival'. It took place over four days from 2 March until 5 March, and the matches were played at Football Park and Norwood Oval. Ten teams were involved, including all the states and territories, making it the most heavily contested competition. They were divided into two sections. South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia and New South Wales were in Section One.
