Michael Thomson (footballer)
Michael Thomson (born 26 November 1961) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon and Richmond in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL). Recruited locally, Thomson's career at Essendon coincided one of the club's most successful decades and as a result he found it difficult to command regular selection. He played ten games in 1981, his first season, which included an elimination final. In the opening round of the 1982 season he kicked five goals against Footscray but made just two further appearances that year. He participated in the Essendon reserves premiership in 1983 and put in some good performances in the seniors, including having 42 disposals and kicking three goals in a win over St Kilda. In 1984 he didn't play a single game and a shoulder injury restricted him to just six appearances in 1985, missing out on both of Essendon's premierships. Michael Thomson (judge)
Michael A. Thomson is a Canadian lawyer. Formerly a partner with the law firm of Tapper Cuddy LLP in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he was appointed as a judge of the Family Division of the Court of King's Bench of Manitoba on June 1, 2007. He replaced Robert Carr, who elected to become a supernumerary judge. Thomson received a Bachelor of Laws in 1984 and a Bachelor of Arts in 1981, both from the University of Manitoba. He was admitted to the bar of Manitoba in 1986. He went on to practice with the firm of Tapper Cuddy LLP for more than 20 years, in the areas of civil litigation, child protection, employment and labour, and administrative law, and acted as general counsel to various professional bodies, Indigenous organizations and child welfare agencies. Thomson has been involved with the Committee for Consideration of Establishment of a Mental Health Court and was the President of the Schizophrenia Society of Canada. Michael Thomson (born 23 August 1960) is an Australian news presenter and journalist. He is currently the presenter of ''Nine News Perth'' on weeknights at 6:00 pm and the national late-night news bulletin on Mondays to Thursdays. Career Thomson began his career working with newspaper Daily News in 1980. In 1987, he joined the Nine Network's news program Nine News Perth as a crime reporter, then becoming a sports reporter and presenter. He has covered the Commonwealth Games in Canada in 1994, the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 and Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000. In 2000, Thomson was awarded the Australian Sports Medal. Thomson left the network in 2011 to become the Marketing and Communications Manager at Surf Life Saving WA, and returned in 2013 to become Head of Sport for STW9. Mickael Gordon "Mick" Thomson (born November 3, 1973) is an American musician. He is one of two guitarists for the heavy metal band Slipknot, in which he is designated #7. Thomson originally met founding Slipknot members Anders Colsefni, Donnie Steele and Paul Gray through their mutual involvement in death metal band Body Pit, later joined in early 1996. Following the departure of fellow band mate and drummer Joey Jordison in 2013, Thomson is now the third longest-serving member of Slipknot. Early life Thomson grew up having a "fascination with death metal bands", including Morbid Angel, although he has also named the Beatles as one of his major musical influences.
