Mike Smith (drummer)
Mike Smith (born July 16, 1971 in Bronx, New York) is an American multi-instrumentalist, best known as the founding member and former drummer of the prominent New York-based technical death metal band Suffocation. He performed on their 1990 demo ''Reincremated'', the 1991 EP, '' Human Waste'', their 1991 debut album '' Effigy of the Forgotten'', and their 1993 album ''Breeding the Spawn''. He then departed from the band and was subsequently replaced before the bands departure from the scene in 1998. Smith returned when Suffocation reformed in 2002 after a four-year hiatus and performed on their 2004 release, ''Souls to Deny'', their 2006 self-titled album, and 2009's Blood Oath. Smith (as a member of Suffocation) was Inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2011. Smith left Suffocation for the second time in February 2012. Michael Smith, usually referred to as Mikey Smith (14 September 1954 – 17 August 1983), was a Jamaican dub poet. Along with Linton Kwesi Johnson, and Mutabaruka, he was one of the best-known dub poets. In 1978, Smith represented Jamaica at the 11th World Festival of Youth and Students in Cuba. His album ''Mi Cyaan Believe It'' includes his poem of the same name. He had left-anarchist leanings and Rastafarian sympathies, and was allegedly murdered by political opponents associated with the right-wing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) after he had heckled the Jamaican Minister of Culture at a political rally on 17 August 1983. Michael Smith (1942-2014) was an Irish poet, author and translator. A member of Aosdána, the Irish National Academy of Artists, Michael Smith was the first Writer in-Residence to be appointed by University College, Dublin and was an Honorary Fellow of UCD. He was a poet who gave a lifetime of service to the art of poetry both in English and Spanish. He has been described as a classical modernist, a poet of modern life. Amen Corner were a Welsh rock group formed in Cardiff, Wales. They are best known for their hits "Bend Me, Shape Me", "High in the Sky" and the chart-topper " (If Paradise Is) Half as Nice". Career The band, formed in late 1966, was named after The Amen Corner, a weekly disc spin at the Victoria Ballroom (later to become The Scene Club) in Cardiff, Wales, where every Sunday night Dr. Rock would play soul music from the United States.
