Michael Smedley
Michael John Smedley (born 28 October 1941) is an English former first-class cricketer. He began his career with Yorkshire and played for the Second XI 1960–62. In 1963, he joined Nottinghamshire and made his first-class debut in 1964. Smedley, right-handed, was a specialist middle order batsman. He was awarded his county cap in 1966 and had his benefit season in 1975, which raised £8,500. Maltby, South Yorkshire
Maltby is a former mining town and civil parish of 16,688 inhabitants (2011) in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England. It was historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire. It is located about east of Rotherham town centre and north-east of Sheffield city centre. It forms a continuous urban area with Hellaby, separated from the rest of Rotherham by the M18 motorway. History The place-name 'Maltby' is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as ''Maltebi''. The name means 'Malti's homestead or village'. ''Malti'' was a common Old Danish name. Maltby was for centuries a small village near a stream based around farming. Clive Rice
Clive Edward Butler Rice (23 July 1949 – 28 July 2015) was a South African international cricketer. An all-rounder, Rice ended his First Class cricket career with a batting average of 40.95 and a bowling average of 22.49. He captained Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club from 1979 to 1987. His career coincided directly with South Africa's sporting isolation, and his international experience was limited to his post-prime days. He played three One Day Internationals for South Africa following the country's return from sporting isolation. He was controversially left out of the squads for the one-off Test against West Indies and the 1992 Cricket World Cup. Despite this he is widely regarded as one of the best all-rounders of his generation, alongside Imran Khan, Ian Botham, Kapil Dev and his county team-mate Richard Hadlee. Jack Bond (cricketer)
John David Bond, (6 May 1932 – 11 July 2019) was an English cricketer who played for Lancashire and Nottinghamshire. Born in Kearsley, Lancashire, England, Bond began his cricket career playing for Walkden, where he was raised, in the Bolton Cricket League. He was a right-handed middle order batsman and joined Lancashire in 1955, being assured of a regular place in a strong batting line-up in only a few seasons, among them 1962, when he scored 2,125 runs at an average of more than 36. But by the mid-1960s, he was second eleven captain and an irregular first-class cricketer. Success with the second team, though, led to an unexpected call-up to be first team captain from 1968 and over the next five seasons, Bond led a previously under-achieving side to a run of success in one-day cricket competitions that has not been equalled. The club's limited overs team is called the Notts Outlaws. The county club was founded in 1841, although teams had played first-class cricket under the Nottinghamshire name since 1835.
