Michael Schultz (gallerist)
Michael Schultz (born 4 November 1951) was an internationally active German gallerist. Michael Schultz Gallery / Galerie Michael Schultz operated in Berlin, Germany, Beijing, and Seoul. Thus he ran four galleries on two continents. The galleries provided cultural exchange, as Asian artists are shown in Europe and vice versa. The Galerie Michael Schultz GmbH & Co.KG was dissolved on November 7, 2019 due to the opening of insolvency proceedings. Schultz died of a brief serious illness on December 28, 2021. Biography and career Born in Freudenstadt in Germany’s Black Forest on November 4, 1951, Michael Schultz, studied Music and Theater at the Freie Universität Berlin (1974–78). He was editor in chief of the now defunct "Berliner Kunstmagazin". He went on to become the managing director of the Michael Wewerka gallery (Berlin). Freudenstadt
Freudenstadt ( Swabian: ''Fraidestadt'') is a town in Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany. It is capital of the district Freudenstadt. The closest population centres are Offenburg to the west (approx. 36 km away) and Tübingen to the east (approx. 47 km away). Georg Kolbe
Georg Kolbe (15 April 1877 – 20 November 1947) was a German sculptor. He was the leading German figure sculptor of his generation, in a vigorous, modern, simplified classical style similar to Aristide Maillol of France. Early life and education Kolbe was born in Waldheim, Saxony. Originally trained as a painter in Dresden, Munich, and Paris, he began sculpting during a stay in Rome at the turn of the century under the technical guidance of sculptor Louis Tuaillon. Career In 1905, Kolbe joined the 'Berliner Sezession', which in 1913, he left to join the 'Freie Sezession'. His artistic breakthrough came in 1912 with his sculpture masterpiece "Die Tänzerin", his most famous work. As he was very interested in Asian faces, D. N. Mazumdar, father of Indian novelist Anita Desai, sat for him, resulting in a bust and a torso. Burkhard Held
Burkhard Held is German painter living and working in Berlin, Germany. His art is based on figuration dissolving into abstraction. Biography Held was born in 1953. He studied at the Berlin University of the Arts as a "Meisterschüler" (Master Disciple) of Dietmar Lemcke from 1972 to 1979, and was granted a scholarship at Garrucha (Spain) by the "German National Academic Foundation" (Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes). In 1993 he became professor at the Berlin University of the Arts. and later served as a professor at the China Academy of Art ("Chinesisch-deutsche Kunstakademie") in Hangzhou, PRC. Andy Denzler
Andy Denzler (born 3 August 1965) is a Swiss artist. His distinctive technique of distorting the freshly applied surface of his paintings has shaped his entire oeuvre in painting, printmaking, sculpture and drawing. Life and works Denzler was born in Zurich. He trained at the Kunstgewerbeschule and the F+F Schule für Gestaltung in Zurich, both schools of applied arts, as well as at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena. Arif Aziz
Arif Aziz (or: Ариф Азиз; * 1943 in Baku; with full name: Aziz Arif Mokhubali / Азиз Ариф Мохубали) is an artist from Azerbaijan, living and teaching in its capital, Baku. He is one of Azerbaijan's internationally known contemporary artists and serves as his country's Ambassador for Peace, People’s Artist of Azerbaijan Republic and Professor at Azerbaijani State University of Art and Culture. Life Arif Aziz was born in Baku in 1943, where he lives and works. He studied at first, between 1957 and 1962, at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Art. He then studied graphic design in Moscow for five years. Since the early 1970s he teaches fine arts at the country's art schools. Sonja Alhäuser (born 1969) is a German artist. Biography Sonja Alhäuser was born in Kirchen ( Westerwald), Germany in 1969 and studied at the Staatliche Kunstakademie (State Art Academy) in Düsseldorf, becoming "Meisterschülerin" (Master Disciple) of Fritz Schwegler in 1995. From 2002 to 2005, Alhäuser taught drawing at the University of Duisburg-Essen, and from 2007 to 2009 painting at the Braunschweig Academy. Gerhard Richter
Gerhard Richter (; born 9 February 1932) is a German visual artist. Richter has produced abstract as well as photorealistic paintings, and also photographs and glass pieces. He is widely regarded as one of the most important contemporary German artists and several of his works have set record prices at auction. Gwangju
Gwangju () is South Korea's sixth-largest metropolis. It is a designated metropolitan city under the direct control of the central government's Home Minister.
