Michael S. Hinson Jr.
Michael S. Hinson Jr. (1966–2022) was an American Black and LGBTQ activist, educator, and researcher who lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was the CEO, chief executive officer of SELF, Inc. Life and works Michael Hinson grew up in Wilmington, Delaware and Hemingway, South Carolina and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies from Peirce College and a Masters in Public Administration from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. At the time of his death in 2022, he was completing a Doctor of Public Administration at Capella University. Hinson was also a prominent member of Philadelphia's Yoruba religion, Yoruba community, becoming a Yoruba priest in the early 1990s. He was a founder and director of the Colours Organization in Philadelphia from 1991 to 2000, where he developed innovative programs addressing the broader health needs of Black LGBTQ people. Wilmington, Delaware
Wilmington ( Lenape: ''Paxahakink /'' ''Pakehakink)'' is the largest city in the U.S. state of Delaware. The city was built on the site of Fort Christina, the first Swedish settlement in North America. It lies at the confluence of the Christina River and Brandywine Creek, near where the Christina flows into the Delaware River. It is the county seat of New Castle County and one of the major cities in the Delaware Valley metropolitan area. Wilmington was named by Proprietor Thomas Penn after his friend Spencer Compton, Earl of Wilmington, who was prime minister during the reign of George II of Great Britain. At the 2020 census, the city's population was 70,898.
