Mike Ross (politician)
Michael Avery Ross (born August 2, 1961) is an American businessman and politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as the U.S. representative for from 2001 to 2013 and was his party's nominee for governor of Arkansas in 2014. He is currently the last Democrat to have represented Arkansas in the House of Representatives. He was also a member of the Arkansas Senate from 1991 to 2001, a member of the Nevada County Quorum Court from 1983 to 1985, and a small business owner. On July 25, 2011, Ross announced that he would not seek reelection to the House in 2012. He instead became the Democratic nominee for governor of Arkansas in the general election scheduled for November 4, 2014. He faced the Republican choice, former U.S. Representative Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas's 3rd congressional district and the 2006 failed nominee against outgoing Governor Mike Beebe, a Democrat. Michael Ross (Washington Politician)
Michael K. Ross (July 14, 1941 – August 21, 2007) was an American civil rights activist, construction worker, and member of the Washington House of Representatives who served from 1970 to 1972. He is the last Republican to have been elected from Washington's 37th legislative district. Early life Ross was born in Iowa City, Iowa to Carl Ross and Violet Phinisse Scott, and was raised in Flint, Michigan and Los Angeles, California. From 1958 to 1960 he served in the United States Air Force. After briefly attending Washburn Community College in Topeka, Kansas, he relocated to Virginia to work for Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Get Out the Vote" campaign. In 1967 he moved to Washington state out of a desire to escape the discrimination he had suffered elsewhere as a result of his brief marriage to a Caucasian woman. Mike Ross (born 21 December 1979) is a retired Irish rugby union footballer who played prop for Irish club Leinster and the Ireland national rugby team. He attended St. Colman's College, Fermoy, as a day-boy from 1992 to 1998, and he played his club rugby at this time with Fermoy RFC. The former UCC and Cork Constitution player made the move from Munster and played for three years at the highest level in England, making his name in the English Premiership with Harlequins. Following a move to Leinster, he featured in a number of Ireland squads and lined out for the Wolfhounds, as well as making his debut for the National team on the 2009 Summer tour to Canada and the USA. Ross later made his Six Nations debut in 2011 against Italy. Following that, he was a mainstay on the Irish team until 2016. In May 2019, he was named in Italy's squad for their Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Germany in the Netherlands. He made his T20I debut for Italy against Germany on 25 May 2019. Michael Ross (born 16 September 1991) is an Australian rules footballer who played for the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Junior career Ross originally played for the Warragul and then the Gippsland Power in the TAC Cup. He played 40 matches for Gippsland Power and averaged 21.4 disposals per game from his 14 appearances in 2010, the third highest average at the club. He was used mainly in the backline with his 4.1 rebound 50s per game a club-high. He has exceptional speed over 20 metres and was described in the press as a 'classy' and 'dashing' defender who set up a lot of positive play. Michael Ross is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s and 1970s. He played for Balmain in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. Background In 1964 Ross captained the Tamworth High School First XIII to win the University Shield (NSW Combined High Schools competition) and the NSW State Championship (All Schools). After high school, he moved to Sydney to study and play for the Balmain club. Playing career Ross made his New South Wales Rugby League first grade debut for Balmain in 1966, last playing in 1973, having appeared in the top grade in all seasons, except 1970. Mike Ross is an American sculptor known for large scale public art projects. Works Ross' best known work, ''Big Rig Jig'', consisted of two modified tanker trucks attached to each other vertically in an S shape, with a truss installed in the tanks that allowed people to climb inside. The piece was built at American Steel, an art fabrication shop in Oakland, California. It was commissioned by the Black Rock City, LLC for Burning Man in 2007, and was considered one of the highlights of the event. It toured to the Coachella Music Festival in 2008, and featured at Dismaland in 2015. Ross described the work as a commentary on America's unsustainable oil economy. Michael Ross (born 1954 in Buffalo, New York) is an American contemporary artist, known for his small-scale sculptures. Although Michael Ross has exhibited conceptually based works including performance, mail art, video, and audience participation projects, the last twenty years have seen the artist direct his focus toward small, precise wall mounted sculptures created from scraps, unidentifiable hardware and miscellaneous things. Michael Ross's earliest small-scale sculpture consisted of a single upright thimble containing the dust from several rooms of his home. A small work created by the artist in 1994 made a wry salute to large-scale minimal metal sculptures like those of Donald Judd. Over the years, Ross has also created numerous unique tiny sculptures inspired by the Japanese fairy tales of the writer Lafcadio Hearn. Michael Ross (born Isadore Rovinsky) (August 4, 1919 – May 26, 2009) was an American screenwriter and television producer. Ross, together with writing partners Don Nicholl and Bernard West, were writers/producers for ''All in the Family'' (for which Ross won the 1973 Emmy Award for Writing for a Comedy Series), ''The Jeffersons'', '' The Dumplings'', and ''Three's Company''. Michael Bruce Ross (July 26, 1961 – May 13, 2005) was an American serial killer. In 2005, he was executed by the state of Connecticut. Connecticut ended capital punishment in 2012, and the Connecticut Supreme Court ruled capital punishment unconstitutional in 2015, converting the sentences of the state's remaining death row inmates to life in prison without parole. Early life Ross was born in Putnam, Connecticut, on July 26, 1959, to Patricia Hilda Laine and Dan Graeme Ross. He was the oldest of four children, having two younger sisters and a younger brother. The family lived on a chicken farm in Brooklyn, Connecticut.
