Michael Roach Medal
The Michael Roach Medal is an Australian rules football award given each season to the leading goalkicker (or goalkickers) for the Richmond Football Club. The award is now named in honour of Michael Roach, Richmond's "best post-war full forward". Roach won the goalkicking award at Richmond on seven occasions; in 1980 kicked the highest individual season goal tally in Tiger history and became only the second Richmond full forward to kick over 100 goals in a season; and was the first Richmond player to win the VFL/AFL goalkicking award twice (Jack Riewoldt winning it for the second time in 2012). Richmond's best pre-war full forward, Jack Titus, led the goalkicking at Richmond on eleven occasions. Retiring in 2009, Richmond forward Matthew Richardson was the club's leading goalkicker on thirteen occasions. Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Fred Burge
Frederick Charles Burge (6 September 1923 – 6 November 2018) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Richmond in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Burge, who arrived from Castlemaine, played in two grand finals early in his career, despite not being a regular member of the side. Jack Baggott
John Henry Baggott (20 July 1906 – 2 June 1995) was an Australian rules footballer who played and coached in the Victorian Football League (VFL) between 1927 and 1940 for the Richmond Football Club, Essendon Football Club, and South Melbourne Football Club. Career in football Baggott represented the Richmond Football Club between 1927 and 1935. He was Richmond's leading goal kicker in his debut year of 1927 with 37 goals, and again in 1928 with 61 goals. In Round 9 of the 1928 season he kicked a then club record 12 goals against South Melbourne, the first Richmond player to ever hit double figures in goal-kicking in a game. Dave Lynch
David Lynch (13 March 1902 – 19 March 1958) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond Football Club, Richmond in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). Lynch, a full-forward from Christian Brothers Old Boys, averaged 3.9 goals a game for Richmond, but could only amass 20 senior appearances in his eight years at the club. He began in 1922 with four goals on debut, against St Kilda Football Club, St Kilda. After playing in two more fixtures that year and just one in 1923, he didn't return to the team until 1926. He was Richmond's leading goal-kicker in the 1926 VFL season, despite not appearing until round 12 and featuring in just six games. Donald McKenzie Don (17 August 1900 – 31 May 1982) was an Australian rules footballer who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL) between 1917 and 1928 for the Richmond Football Club. Charlie Fehring
Charles Fehring (21 March 1899 – 30 November 1981) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond and Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A forward, Fehring was recruited from Surreys. He was Richmond's leading goal-kicker in the 1917 VFL season, despite kicking just 14 goals, from his 11 appearances. The following year he featured just once, but played nine games for Richmond in 1919. Percy Martyn
Percy James Martyn (11 May 1891 – 13 January 1962) was an Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda, Richmond and Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Originally from Warrnambool, Martyn began his football career with the Inglewood Football Club in 1909, featuring in the team's 1910 Premiership in the Korong Central District Association. Martyn then moved to the city where he started his league career at St Kilda with three goals in both round one and two of the 1912 VFL season. He crossed to Richmond in 1913 and managed 32 goals from just 12 appearances, including a six-goal haul against University (the equal highest match tally for Richmond to that time), to top their goal-kicking.
