Alberta ( ) is one of the thirteen provinces and territories of Canada. It is part of Western Canada and is one of the three prairie provinces. Pakan, Alberta
Fort Victoria, near present-day Smoky Lake, Alberta, was established by the Hudson's Bay Company in 1864 on the North Saskatchewan River as a trading post with the local Cree First Nations. It had previously been settled in 1862 as a Methodist Missionary site, on the location of an aboriginal meeting place. It was named Victoria Settlement, after Queen Victoria. Today, it is a historical museum known as Victoria Settlement. The nearby rural residences are Pakan, Alberta. Metis Crossing Cultural Heritage Gathering Centre is nearby. Vegreville (provincial Electoral District)
Vegreville was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1909 to 1963 and again from 1971 to 1993. History Boundary history Vegreville was created from the northwest corner of the Vermilion district as part of the almost-doubling of seats in the Legislature in 1909. Over time, its boundaries were adjusted several times, shrinking to the area immediately surrounding the town of Vegreville. In 1963, Vegreville was merged with some of the Bruce district to form Vegreville-Bruce, but in the redistribution that followed, the district was renamed Vegreville with little change in boundaries. The riding was finally abolished in 1993, mostly absorbed by Vegreville-Viking, with a small area transferred to Vermilion-Lloydminster. Stanley Nicholas Ruzycki (December 31, 1915 – October 15, 2004) was a politician from Alberta, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1955 to 1959 as one of two members of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation caucus. Political career Ruzycki first ran for a seat in the Alberta Legislature in the 1952 Alberta general election, 1952 general election as a Co-operative Commonwealth candidate in the electoral district of Vegreville. He was defeated on the second count by incumbent Michael Ponich. Ruzycki faced Ponich again in the 1955 Alberta general election, 1955 general election; this time Ruzycki defeated Ponich on the second count to pick up the seat for his party. Alberta Social Credit was a provincial political party in Alberta, Canada, that was founded on social credit monetary policy put forward by Clifford Hugh Douglas and on conservative Christian social values. The Canadian social credit movement was largely an out-growth of Alberta Social Credit. The Social Credit Party of Canada was strongest in Alberta, before developing a base in Quebec when Réal Caouette agreed to merge his Ralliement créditiste movement into the federal party. The British Columbia Social Credit Party formed the government for many years in neighbouring British Columbia, although this was effectively a coalition of centre-right forces in the province that had no interest in social credit monetary policies.
