Michael Parker (novelist)
Michael Parker is an American short story writer, novelist and journalist. Life Michael Parker was born in Siler City, North Carolina and grew up in Clinton, North Carolina. He attended Appalachian State University and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with honors in Creative Writing. Parker received his MFA from the University of Virginia in 1988. Parker's short fiction has appeared in "''New England Review''," " ''The Oxford American,''" ''Five Points'', ''Shenandoah'', '' Carolina Quarterly'', ''Epoch'' and ''The Georgia Review'' and has been anthologized in the ''Pushcart Prize Stories'' and ''New Stories from the South.'' His stories have received three O. Henry Awards (2005, 2014, 2018). Parker's nonfiction has appeared in ''The New York Times Magazine'', ''Runner's World'', ''Trail Runner'', '' Men's Journal'', ''Gulf Coast'', ''Our State'', ''The Oxford American'' and other magazines. Warren Wilson College
Warren Wilson College (WWC) is a private liberal arts college in Swannanoa, North Carolina. It is known for its curriculum that combines academics, work, and service as every student must complete a requisite course of study, work an on-campus job, and perform community service. PEN/Hemingway Prize
The PEN/Hemingway Award is awarded annually to a full-length novel or book of short stories by an American author who has not previously published a full-length book of fiction. The award is named after Ernest Hemingway and funded by the Hemingway family and the Ernest Hemingway Foundation/Society. It is administered by PEN America. Mary Hemingway, a member of PEN, founded the award in 1976 both to honor the memory of her husband and to recognize distinguished first books of fiction. The winner is selected by a panel of three distinguished fiction writers and receives a cash prize of US$25,000. Along with the winner, two finalists and two runners-up receive a Ucross Residency Fellowship at the Ucross Foundation, a retreat for artists and writers on a 22,000 acre (89 km²) ranch on the high plains in Ucross, Wyoming.
