Michael Nolan (MP)
Michael Nolan (died 1827) was an Irish barrister and judge, known as a politician and legal author. Life Born in Ireland, Nolan was admitted an attorney of the Irish Court of Exchequer about 1787, and was called to the Barristers in England and Wales, English bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1792. He practised as a special pleader on the home circuit and at the Surrey sessions, gained experience of the details of the Poor Laws. Elected as Member of Parliament for in 1820, Nolan introduced the Poor Law Reform Bills of 1822–3–4. In 1823 he asked for appointment as Puisne Justice of Chester, losing out to Thomas Jervis (judge), Thomas Jervis. He left parliament in March 1824, on being appointed justice of the counties of Brecon, Glamorgan, and Radnor, and died in 1827. Michael Patrick Nolan, Baron Nolan, (10 September 1928 – 22 January 2007) was a judge in the United Kingdom, and from 1994 until 1997 was the first chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life. In the words of his obituary in ''The Guardian'', "Lord Nolan .. made a profound mark on national life by substantially cleansing the Augean stable of corrupt politics as founding chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life." Early and private life Nolan was the son of James Nolan, a solicitor, and his wife, Jane Nolan. His father's family had left County Kerry in the mid-19th century. Lord Nolan cited his parents as "the first and foremost influences on my life". The Nolan family lived in Bexhill-on-Sea. Michael Nolan (30 November 1925 – 14 December 2009) was an Irish Catholic priest and psychologist. Early training as priest John Robert Michael Nolan was born in Birmingham in 1925. He attended St. Vincent's C.B.S. school in Dublin and then transferred to the Holy Cross College (Dublin) (1944-1947) to train for the priesthood. He completed his studies in the Pontifical Irish College and was ordained as a priest in the Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran, Rome by Cardinal Clemente Micara on 10 March 1951.Β  His first appointment was as Chaplain to the Sacred Heart Convent, Mount Anville (1951 – 52).Β  He returned to St. Vincent's C.B.S. school for a short period before being appointed Assistant Priest to Coolock (1952 – 1954).Β  From 1954 – 1956 he undertook further studies in the Teutonic College, Rome.Β He was an advisor to the Archbishop of Dublin and also the exorcist for the diocese. Michael Nolan is a Gaelic footballer from County Laois, Ireland. He plays for the Portlaoise club. He plays as a goalkeeper for Laois and in 2003 was part of the Laois squad that won the Leinster Senior Football Championship title for the first time since 1946. Michael Francis Nolan (9 November 1949 – 27 May 2008) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the North Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Because of his weight of 135 kg and height of 194 cm, Nolan was dubbed "The Galloping Gasometer" by commentator Lou Richards. Until the emergence of Aaron Sandilands (only 120 kg) in the early 2000s, Nolan was the heaviest ruckman to play VFL/AFL football. He was nevertheless surprisingly agile and regarded as one of the best "palm" ruckmen of the 1970s. Nolan had a long kick and was unusually effective, for a big man, in picking up the ball at ground level. Michael Nolan (born 7 December 1954) is an Irish singer who is best known as one of the four original members of the British pop group, Bucks Fizz, who now perform as The Fizz. He was born in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, but brought up in the UK, where he still resides. As a member of Bucks Fizz, he won the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest and achieved 20 UK top 60 singles between 1981 and 1988, including three number one hits. He was a member of the group until 1996.
