Michael Moore (saxophonist And Clarinetist)
Michael Moore (born December 4, 1954) is an American jazz musician who has lived in the Netherlands since 1982. Background and career The son of a semi-professional musician, Moore was born and raised in Eureka, California. He studied music at Humboldt State and in 1977 graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Jaki Byard and Gunther Schuller, and was a classmate of Marty Ehrlich. He played in a variety of musical contexts, especially those in support of theatre and dance groups. By 1982 he was a regular member of Misha Mengelberg's Instant Composers Pool and had moved to Amsterdam. He was also a member of Georg Gräwe's Grubenklang Orchester. Moore is one-third of the Clusone Trio (aka Trio Clusone and Clusone 3) with cellist Ernst Reijseger and drummer Han Bennink. Irving Berlin (born Israel Beilin; yi, ישראל ביילין; May 11, 1888 – September 22, 1989) was a Russian-American composer, songwriter and lyricist. ''MGM Trio'' is an album by pianist Marilyn Crispell, drummer Gerry Hemingway, and reed player Michael Moore. Four tracks were recorded live at De Singel in Antwerp, Belgium on November 28, 1994, while the remaining tracks were recorded at Nevessa Studio in Saugerties, New York on December 23, 1995. The album, which features compositions by Moore, was released in 1996 by Ramboy Recordings. The trio is named after the players' first initials. Islak Köpek is a free improvisation band from Istanbul, Turkey. Its current members are Robert Reigle, Volkan Terzioglu, Sevket Akinci, Korhan Erel, Giray Gürkal. Islak Köpek’s original lineup of Korhan Erel, Şevket Akıncı, Volkan Terzioğlu and Volkan Ergen had their first performance in the summer of 2005. Following a series of performances at Galata Perform and Jazz Cafe in Istanbul, Dirk Stromberg and Robert Reigle joined the band in January 2006. Korhan Erel (1973, Istanbul) is a musician, improviser, sound designer based in Berlin. Korhan plays instruments they design on a computer or other electronic instruments by employing various controllers. They are a founding member of Islak Köpek, Turkey's pioneer free improvisation group, which is regarded as the band that started the free improvisation scene in Turkey. They compose and design sounds for dance, theater, installations and film, and collaborate with dancers, video artists, and spoken word artists. The VPRO/Boy Edgar Award, is an annual award given to a Dutch jazz musician, composer, or bandleader. The individual must have made significant contributions to the Dutch jazz scene over a significant period of time. The award is a sculpture by Dutch fine artist Jan Wolkers, and a cash prize of 12,500 euros. It is widely regarded as the Netherlands' most prestigious and honorable jazz award. The award is given under the auspicies of the VPRO and Music Center the Netherlands. James Peter Giuffre (, ; April 26, 1921 – April 24, 2008) was an American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, composer, and arranger. He is known for developing forms of jazz which allowed for free interplay between the musicians, anticipating forms of free improvisation.
