Michael Moody (materials Scientist)
Michael Moody is general manager and co-founder of The Grange Festival. After working with Australian Opera, Garsington, and Wexford opera festivals, he then co-founded (with Wasfi Kani) both the Grange Park Opera and the Nevill Holt Opera festivals. He has been involved with the Pimlico Opera prison project since 1996 and directed ''The Threepenny Opera -'' HMP Winchester, ''West Side Story -'' HMP Winchester and Wandsworth, ''Guys and Dolls'' - Wormwood Scrubs, ''Chicago'' - HMP Bronzefield, ''Les Miserables'' - HMP Wandsworth and Erlestoke, ''Sugar -'' HMP Send, ''Sister Act'' - HMP Bronzefield and ''Our House'' with Suggs at HMP Isis. The Grange Festival
The Grange Festival is a summer opera festival established to continue performances at The Grange opera house in Hampshire. The first season started on 7 June 2017 and featured operas by Monteverdi, Bizet and Britten. History Opera at The Grange, Northington was established in 1998 by the founders of Grange Park Opera, Wasfi Kani and Michael Moody. A new, award-winning opera house was built at the site in 2002. After seventeen years, Grange Park Opera decided to relocate at the end of the 2016 season, following a dispute over a new lease. The Grange Festival was formed in January 2016 with Michael Chance CBE, Rachel Pearson and Michael Moody as co-founders. The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and The Academy of Ancient Music were named as the festival's orchestras in residence. Wasfi Kani
Wasfi Kani (born London, 7 March 1956) is the founder and CEO of Pimlico Opera and Grange Park Opera. Kani was born in Cable Street in London's East End where her parents lived after leaving India at partition. She attendeHarry Gosling Primary Schooluntil 1962 when the family moved to Kilburn, London. Kani played the violin in the National Youth Orchestra and went on to study music at St Hilda's College, Oxford (197579). Career On leaving Oxford, Kani spent 10 years programming and designing financial computer systems in the City. Kani continued to play the violin and piano and she began to study conducting. In 1986 she started a small computer consultancy. In 1987 Kani founded the small-scale touring company Pimlico Opera, staging productions in places such as banks, hospitals, country houses and prisons. Grange Park Opera
Grange Park Opera is a professional opera company and charity whose base is West Horsley Place in Surrey, England. Founded in 1998, the company staged an annual opera festival at The Grange, in Hampshire and in 2016–7, built a new opera house, the 'Theatre in the Woods', at West Horsley Place – the 350-acre estate inherited by author and broadcaster Bamber Gascoigne in 2014. With five tiers of seating in a horseshoe shape (modelled on La Scala, Milan), the Theatre in the Woods is designed to target an optimum acoustic reverberation of 1.4 seconds. Nevill Holt Opera
Nevill Holt Opera is an arts festival at the end of June and beginning of July that is held at Nevill Holt Hall in Leicestershire, the home of Carphone Warehouse co-founder David Ross. History Nevill Holt Opera launched its first independent season in 2013 with a staging of ''The Magic Flute''. The venue previously hosted Grange Park Opera. The annual event features a headline opera production as well as an open-air exhibition of contemporary British sculpture featuring artists such as Marc Quinn, Allen Jones and Peter Randall-Page. The opera company aims to celebrate young British talent and tries to cast young singers, offering them a chance to launch their career. A new 400-seat opera house in the stable block by architects Witherford Watson Mann opened in June 2018. Graham McPherson (born 13 January 1961), known primarily by his stage name Suggs, is an English singer-songwriter, musician, radio personality and actor from Hastings, England. The Grange, Northington
The Grange is a 19th-century country house-mansion and English Garden, English landscape park near Northington in Hampshire, England. It is currently owned by the John Baring, 7th Baron Ashburton, Baring family, Baron Ashburton, Barons Ashburton. Michael Chance
Michael Chance CBE (born in Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom 7 March 1955) is an English countertenor and the founder and Artistic Director of The Grange Festival. Chance was born in Penn, Buckinghamshire, into a musical family. After growing up as a chorister at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, attending the St George's School, he went on to Eton and later King's College, Cambridge. His first operatic appearance was in the Buxton Festival in Ronald Eyre's staging of Cavalli's ''Giasone'' which was followed by appearances in Lyon, Cologne, and three seasons with Kent Opera.
