Michael McGee (Gaelic Footballer)
Michael "Mickey" McGee is a former Gaelic footballer who played for the Loughmacrory club and the Tyrone county team. Awards McGee has three All-Ireland Senior Football Championship winners' medals. He brought the first All-Ireland senior championship medal to his club, Loughmacrory, in 2003, the year Tyrone made the breakthrough at county senior level, and he won an All-Ireland minor medal with the county in 1998. From there he progressed to the Under-21 grade where he won two All-Ireland Under-21 championships in 2000 and 2001. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. Loughmacrory (AKA the lough)( ; ) is a village and townland (of 1651 acres) in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. The village is situated 8 miles (13 km) east of Omagh in the historic barony of Omagh East and the civil parish of Termonmaguirk. it had a population of 237 in the 2001 Census. The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) ( ga, Craobh Shinsir Peile na hÉireann) is the premier competition in Gaelic football. An annual tournament organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), it is contested by the county teams in All-Ireland. The first tournament was held in 1887; it has been held every year since 1889. Each tournament ends with a final, played by the 35th Sunday of the year at Croke Park in Dublin, with the winning team receiving the Sam Maguire Cup. The Sam Maguire Cup ( ga, Chorn Sam Mhic Uidhir), often referred to as Sam or The Sam , is a trophy awarded annually by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) to the team that wins the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the main competition in the sport of Gaelic football. The Sam Maguire Cup was first presented to Kildare, winners of the 1928 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final.
