Michael Keane (hurler)
Michael Keane (1933 – 9 January 2002) was an Irish hurler. At club level he played with Thurles Sarsfields and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career Keane first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with Thurles Sarsfields. He subsequently progressed onto the club's senior team, with his career coinciding with an unprecedented era of success for the club. Between 1952 and 1965 Keane won 11 Tipperary SHC titles and captained the team in 1960. He also won a Tipperary SFC with Thurles Crokes in 1960. Keane brought his club career to an end after a defeat by Roscrea in the 1968 final. Keane first played for Tipperary during an unsuccessful season with the minor team in 1951. His progression to the senior team was delayed due to the dominance of Tony Reddin. Keane became Reddin's understudy in 1955 before taking over as first-choice goalkeeper the following year. Thurles Sarsfields GAA
Thurles Sarsfields is a Tipperary GAA club which is located in County Tipperary, Ireland. Both hurling and Gaelic football are played in the "Mid-Tipperary" divisional competitions. The club is centred in the town of Thurles at Semple Stadium. The club was founded in 1881 and is the most honoured club in the history of the county championship with 36 County Titles. All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship
The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Minor Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Electric Ireland GAA Hurling All-Ireland Minor Championship) is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition for male players under the age of 17 in Ireland and has been contested every year - except for a three-year absence during the Emergency - since 1928. The final, currently held on the third Sunday in August, is the culmination of a series of games played during July and August, with the winning team receiving the Irish Press Cup. The qualification procedures for the championship have changed several times throughout its history. 1955 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship
The 1955 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship was the 65th staging of the Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Tipperary County Board in 1887. Holycross-Ballycahill were the defending champions. On 2 October 1955, Thurles Sarsfields won the championship after a 4–10 to 0–06 defeat of Borris-Ileigh in the final at Thurles Sportsfield. It was their 18th championship title overall and their first title since 1952. Larry Keane
Laurence Keane (1931 - 16 July 2017) was an Irish hurler. At club level he played with Thurles Sarsfields and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career Keane first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with Thurles Sarsfields. He subsequently progressed onto the club's senior team, with his career coinciding with an unprecedented era of success for the club. Between 1952 and 1963 Keane won nine Tipperary SHC titles, including one as team captain in 1957. He also won a Tipperary SFC with Thurles Crokes in 1960. Keane first played for Tipperary during a two-year tenure with the minor team. He won an All-Ireland MHC medal in 1949 after a defeat of Kilkenny in the final. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. The 1956–57 National Hurling League was the 26th season of the National Hurling League. Division 1 Wexford came into the season as defending champions of the 1955-56 season. Antrim entered Division 1 as the promoted team from the previous season. On 12 May 1957, Tipperary won the title following a 3-11 to 2-7 win over Kilkenny in the final. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire GAA, Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league.
