Michael J. Hindelang Book Award
The Michael J. Hindelang Award is an award, established in 1992, that is awarded annually by the American Society of Criminology to books published in the three previous years that are deemed to make "the most outstanding contribution to research in criminology." A book is only eligible to win the award if it is nominated by a member of the Society. John Laub
John H. Laub (born 1953) is an American criminologist and Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Maryland, College Park. Education Laub received his B.A. from University of Illinois at Chicago Circle in 1975, where he majored in criminal justice and minored in history. He went on to receive his M.A. and Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Albany in 1976 and 1980, respectively. Career Laub joined the University of Maryland as a professor in 1998, and became a distinguished professor there in 2008. From July 22, 2010 to January 4, 2013, he was the director of the National Institute of Justice, a position to which he was appointed by President Barack Obama on July 16, 2010. John Braithwaite (criminologist)
John Braithwaite (born 30 July 1951, Ipswich) is a Distinguished Professor at the Australian National University (ANU). Meda Chesney-Lind is a US feminist, criminologist, and an advocate for girls and women who come in contact with the criminal justice system in Hawaii. Overview Chesney-Lind works to find alternatives to women's incarceration and is an advocate for humanitarian solutions within the Hawaiian criminal justice system. She focuses on teaching courses on girls' delinquency and women's crime, issues of girls' programming and women's imprisonment, youth gangs, the sociology of gender, and the victimization of women and girls. Over much of the past two decades, her focus has been on improvement of the Hawaiian correctional system through producing articles for newspapers, books, and journals, as well as working with community-based agencies and giving talks to local organizations and legislators. Gary Kleck (born March 2, 1951) is a criminologist and the David J. Bordua Professor Emeritus of Criminology at Florida State University. Early life and education Kleck was born in Lombard, Illinois, to William and Joyce Kleck. Ian Taylor (sociologist)
Ian Taylor (11 March 1944 – 19 January 2001) was a British sociologist. He was born in Sheffield. Taylor completed his undergraduate degree at Durham University, where he was an active socialist and involved in the Anti-Apartheid Movement. He continued his studies at Cambridge before returning to Durham for his doctorate. Alan Lizotte
Alan Jeffrey Lizotte is an American criminologist and Distinguished Professor in the School of Criminal Justice at the University at Albany. Early life and education Lizotte grew up in Grand Junction, Colorado, where he later recalled almost everyone he knew owning a gun. He served in the United States Navy from July 1966 to January 1970. His service included one tour on the USS Jouett in the Vietnam War, and one-and-a-half tours in the Inshore Undersea Warfare Group One, Unit 2, on land; he attained the rank of Second Class Petty Officer as a radioman before being discharged. Jeffery Todd Ulmer (born March 2, 1966) is a professor of sociology and criminology at Pennsylvania State University (Penn State). He served as the associate head of the Department of Sociology and Criminology from 2013 to 2019. Darrell John Steffensmeier (born 1942) is an American criminologist and Liberal Arts Research Professor of Sociology and Criminology at Pennsylvania State University. Education After receiving his bachelor's degrees in philosophy and history from St. Ambrose University, Steffensmeier received his M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Iowa in 1970 and 1972, respectively. Bruce Prichart Western (born July 1, 1964) is an Australian-born American sociologist and a professor of sociology at Columbia University.
