Michael I Of Kiev (metropolitan)
Metropolitan Michael I of Kiev (russian: Святитель Михаил Киевский и всея Руси, митрополит; uk, Митрополит Михаїл Київський; died June 15, 992) is considered to be the first Metropolitan of Kiev and All-Rus' from 988-992. He is also considered to be a saint. June 15 and September 30 are dedicated to him on the Julian Calendar. Different historical accounts state that he was either Assyrian people, Assyrian or Bulgarian. He is traditionally accounted as founding the St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery in Kiev as well as the Mezhyhirskyi Monastery near Vyshhorod with Greek monks in 988 Anno Domini, AD. His remains were originally located in the Church of the Tithes, then they were moved to the Near Caves of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, and are now located in the Dormition Cathedral (Pechersk Lavra), Dormition Cathedral of the lavra. Theodosius of Kiev or Theodosius of the Caves (russian: Феодосий Печерский; uk, Феодосій Печерський) is an 11th-century saint who brought Cenobitic Monasticism to Kievan Rus' and, together with Anthony of Kiev, founded the Kiev Caves Lavra (Monastery of the Caves). A hagiography of Theodosius was written in the twelfth century. Theodosius' greatest achievement has been the introducing of the monastic rule of Theodore the Studite in the Monastery of the Caves whence it spread to all the monasteries of the Ukrainian and Russian Orthodox Church. Anthony of Kiev also called Anthony of the Caves ( uk, Антоній Печерський, russian: Антоний Печерский; c. 983–1073) was a monk and the founder of the monastic tradition in Kievan Rus'. Together with Theodosius of Kiev, he co-founded the Kiev Pechersk Lavra (Kiev Monastery of the Caves). Early life He was born in Lyubech (present-day Liubech, Ukraine) in Chernigov Principality and was baptized with the name "Antipas".
