Michael Hurley (Australian Footballer)
Michael Hurley (born 1 June 1990) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He attended Viewbank College and was recruited by the Essendon Football Club with the fifth overall selection in the 2008 national draft. AFL career Hurley showed tremendous form throughout the TAC Cup, showing his all-round quality for the Northern Knights. He was named All-Australian in 2007 and backed it up with another selection after the 2008 AFL Under 18 Championships and was also selected in the TAC Cup Team of the Year in both seasons. He made his debut against the Port Adelaide Power in round 1, 2009, and was nominated twice as the AFL Rising Star nominee, in round 20 of that season, and round 18 the following year, both times against . Michael Hurley (Jesuit)
Father Michael Hurley S.J. (10 May 1923 – 15 April 2011) was an Irish Jesuit priest and theologian, who has been widely called the "father of Irish ecumenism" for promoting Christian unity. Hurley co-founded the Irish School of Ecumenics in 1970 and served as the school's director until 1980. Biography Hurley was born in Ardmore, County Waterford, on 10 May 1923. He attended school in Mount Melleray Abbey, before joining the Society of Jesus in 1940. Hurley was ordained a Jesuit priest in 1954. Hurley was educated at both University College Dublin and the Catholic University of Leuven. He received a doctorate in theology from Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. Hurley taught at the former Mungret College from 1958 to 1970. A strong proponent of ecumenism, Father Hurley co-founded the Irish School of Ecumenics in 1970. Michael Hurley (born December 20, 1941) is an American folk singer-songwriter who was essential to the Greenwich Village folk music scene of the 1960s and 1970s. In addition to playing a wide variety of instruments, Hurley is also a cartoonist and a painter. Hurley's music has been described as "outsider folk". Career He was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. Before starting his recording career Hurley contracted mononucleosis and needed to wait several years until he could sign to a record label. Hurley's debut album, ''First Songs'', was recorded for Folkways Records in 1963, on the same reel-to-reel machine that taped ''Lead Belly's Last Sessions''. He was discovered by blues and jazz historian Frederick Ramsey III, and subsequently championed by boyhood friend Jesse Colin Young, who released his second and third albums on The Youngbloods' Warner Bros. imprint, Raccoon. Michael Hurley (1780 – May 14, 1837) was an American Catholic priest and an Augustinian friar. He served as pastor of St. Augustine Church in Philadelphia for seventeen years, as vicar general of the American province of the Order of Saint Augustine, and as vicar general of the Diocese of Philadelphia. Biography Michael Hurley was born in 1780, the son of Thomas Hurley. Conflicting records indicate that he was either born in Ireland or the United States. Hurley's half-sister claimed that he was born in Philadelphia, while other accounts claim he was born in Ireland, as his father was married in Tipperary. If he had been born in Ireland, he would have been brought to America in his infancy, since city records list Thomas Hurley as an upholsterer on Third Street between Arch and Race Streets in 1785. Andrew Michael Hurley (born 1975) is a British writer whose debut novel, ''The Loney'', was published in a limited edition of 350 copies on 1 October 2014 by Tartarus Press and was published under Hodder and Stoughton's John Murray imprint in 2015 (). He was interviewed on BBC Radio 4's '' Open Book'' programme "British Gothic" in October 2015. ''The Loney'' has been reviewed in ''The Guardian'' and ''The Telegraph''. It is set in the area of Morecambe Bay in north west England, described in the text as "that strange nowhere between the Wyre and the Lune".
