Michael H. Wray
Michael H. Wray (born April 6, 1967) is a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives. Wray has represented the 27th district (including constituents in Halifax and Northampton counties) since 2005. Wray is also a small business owner in Gaston, North Carolina. North Carolina House of Representatives A former Gaston town commissioner, Wray was first elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives in 2004. He has been re-elected a total of 8 times defeating both primary and general election challengers, most recently in 2020. Wray was a founding member of the North Carolina Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus in 2011 and serves as the group's Democratic Co-Chair in the House. In 2015, Wray became a charter member of the Main Street Democrats Caucus in the North Carolina General Assembly. The Main Street Democrats describe themselves as pro-business, moderate Democrats. 2004 North Carolina House Of Representatives Election
An election was held on November 2, 2004 to elect all 120 members to North Carolina's House of Representatives. The election coincided with elections for other offices, including the Presidency, U.S Senate, Governorship, U.S. House of Representatives, Council of State, and state senate. The primary election was held on July 20, 2004 with a run-off occurring on August 17, 2004. These elections were the first to use new district lines drawn by the General Assembly to account the for changes in population amongst each of the districts after the 2000 census. Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act
The Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act, commonly known as House Bill 2 or HB2, was a North Carolina statute passed in March 2016 and signed into law by Governor Pat McCrory. The bill amended state law to preempt any anti-discrimination ordinances passed by local communities and, controversially, compelled schools and state and local government facilities containing single-gender washrooms to only allow people of the corresponding sex as listed on their birth certificate to use them; it also gave the state exclusive rights to determine the minimum wage. Northampton County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 17,471. Its county seat is Jackson. Northampton County is part of the Roanoke Rapids, NC Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Rocky Mount- Wilson-Roanoke Rapids, NC Combined Statistical Area. History The county was formed in 1741 from Bertie County. It was named for James Compton, 5th Earl of Northampton. In 1759 parts of Northampton County, Bertie County, and Chowan County were combined to form Hertford County.
